Dallas Academy
Dallas Academy’s mission statement is to restore the promise of full academic enrichment to students with learning differences. Our staff establishes a meaningful connection with each student to overcome barriers to success.
Nestled near White Rock Lake in beautiful Lake Highlands, a suburb of East Dallas, the School is centrally located in the heart of Dallas. This 1st-12th grade co-ed school with 150 total enrolled students is marked by a rich and colorful history. With over 50 years of service, Dallas Academy reached a milestone in 2015-2016 by gaining the distinction of being the oldest school in the State of Texas to serve students with learning differences.
TITLE: High School Technology Teacher (Anticipated for the 2024-2025 School Year)
REPORTS TO: Principal and Head of School
JOB GOALS:
· To create a differentiated, multi-sensory, flexible, and highly organized program for students with Learning Differences
· To establish effective rapport with the students
· To motivate and engage students to develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide an excellent academic foundation in accordance with each student’s ability
· To establish effective communicative relationships with parents
· To work in cooperative professional groups with colleagues and the community
· To collect and analyze individual student data to make appropriate instructional decisions
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Texas Teaching Certification (preferred)
2. Valid Texas Special Education Teaching Certification (preferred)
3. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field of science, technology, engineering, or math with a 3.0 or higher GPA
4. Master’s degree in a related field of communications, technology, or multimedia with a 3.0 or higher GPA (preferred)
5. Proof of ongoing professional or educational experience with students with Learning Differences within the field of secondary education
6. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
7. Preferred experience with mass media, game design, coding, computational thinking, Esports, web design, photoshop, video production or robotics
8. Experience and skilled in utilization of computer/technology literacy-Interactive White Boards, Laptops, iPADS, Apps, etc.
9. Experience and skilled with the Microsoft platform and applications
10. Experience with the implementation of Research-Based Best Practices in the field of Special Education
11. Experience with Multi-Sensory and Multi-Modality instruction
12. Experience with Project-Based instructional practices
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaches Video Production, Esports, Digital Business, Multimedia, WebDesign to students in accordance to each student’s strengths and needs, using approved curriculum and programming adopted by Dallas Academy.
2. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials with each individual student’s strengths and needs considered, using:
3. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum and programming to the needs of each student.
4. Collects, analyzes, and monitors data to ensure student progress.
5. Evaluates students’ academic, behavioral, and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares qualitative and quantitative progress reports for parent(s)/guardian(s).
6. Coordinates collaborative Esports competitions with outside organizations and companies
7. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the school environment and community.
8. Communicates with parent(s)/guardian(s) regularly through conferences, phone calls, emails, progress reports and other means to discuss student’s progress.
9. Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, behavioral, social, and emotional challenges.
10. Demonstrates ability to utilize and integrate technology into the classroom and lesson plans to support students with disabilities through various hardware, software, applications, and accessibility tools.
11. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities/staff development provided by Dallas Academy and self-selected professional growth activities.
12. Attends professional development at the request Dallas Academy.
13. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned during the workday.
14. Participates in curriculum and program development as requested.
15. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
16. Performs other job-related responsibilities as per the Principal and/or Head of School.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
All employees of Dallas Academy are at-will employees, Terms of employment are outlined in employee’s contracts. Employees are provided with a competitive salary and benefits package.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by, but not limited to, the Principal and communicated to the Head of School for review.
