SUMMARY: Performs a variety of shipping and receiving tasks. Verifies materials received are as ordered and routes incoming items to appropriate departments/locations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: (other duties may be assigned)

• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are critical at all times. Prepare and complete all necessary paperwork including bills of lading and invoices.
• Palletize and organize loads for shipment using correct stacking order. Ensure accuracy of each pallet and entire load.
• Know proper and common procedures for loading trucks. Ensure trucks are loaded in correct order for LTL transit, first stop loaded last, etc.
• Must be able to demonstrate advanced skills with forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
• Responsible for large quantities of products. Keep the warehouse area clean and well organized.
• Inventory skills essential. Will assist in weekly, monthly, and year-end inventories.
• Very strong math skills required for various tasks.
• Ability to read, write and speak English is vital to allow communication with drivers, customers and shipping companies.
• Must be able and willing to work swing shifts, varying hours and overtime due to operational requirements.
• Must demonstrate strong communication skills and ability to perform in a stressful environment.

• Delivers items to requisitioning departments and obtains authorized signatures for accepted items.
• May maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
• Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety standards

• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school or equivalent education with 3 or more years shipping and/or material handling and inventory experience, or combination of education and experience. Knowledge of warehouse operations and loading/unloading of trucks and a minimum of 1 year of Warehouse/Shipping & Receiving experience required. Food industry experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information before groups, within the organization. Bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Must be able to perform basic math functions with and without a calculator. Ability to perform necessary calculations for completion of row counts for shipping and daily time sheets.

OTHER SKILLS: Must be computer literate with intermediate skills in Excel. Superior forklift and electric pallet jack skills. 1 year of proven experience required. Ability to conduct inventories correctly; prior experience preferred.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have adequate eyesight and hearing to be able to recognize hazards to equipment and personnel.

Must be able to turn in all directions in order to observe objects and employees nearby. Full range of motion in extremities to allow proper movement and handling of product. Must be able to walk or stand for at least 90% of assigned shift.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions. Must be able to work in cold temperatures for extended periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually at a level where OSHA requires hearing protection.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Must be available to work as scheduled – including weekends.
