Cyber-Dive Corp. is Hiring a Remote Native Mobile Developer

TLDR;
We need a passionate, special little firecracker (or flower or person) to join our tech team. Full-time. In-office (hybrid is okay).
If you are interested, read what we are like and what we expect you to be like FIRST. Then continue & apply if you ARE that...not if you WANT to be that.
And one more thing if you do apply, it behooves you to read this posting more than once. Maybe even print it out, highlight some stuff, make flashcards, or something.
Table of Contents - don't worry, it's not actually that long:
  • What We Are Like & Our Values.
  • What You Are Like.
  • What You Know.
  • What You've Done.
  • The Job.
  • The Hiring Process.
  • Final Notes.
What We Are Like:
We are a young company and we have grown extremely fast in the past few months. You should expect to be busy!
Every day is different. Every person is different. But we all have passion in common.
Our Values:
  • High Performing Teams even over High Performing Individuals.
  • Highest Quality even over Scrappy/Ad Hoc.
  • Customer Obsessed even over Profitability.
  • Experiments even over Ideas/Discussions.
  • Wellness even over Demands.
  • Radical Candor even over Empathy.
What You Are Like:
  • First and foremost, read page 1 of this - https://i.4pcdn.org/tg/1523793122064.pdf - then continue.
  • Boundary pusher; never accepts the status quo; disregard for convention.
  • Visionary; but you are the one who makes your vision happen.
  • You have strong opinions, but you make sure that you base those on more than just your feelings.
  • You're pretty stubborn, especially in the face of little failures.
  • You love dirt. Not dirt IRL necessarily, but you are someone who rolls up their sleeves to get into the nitty-gritty.
  • Data-driven; you can define the right metrics and teach others why they matter.
  • Self-motivated & self-reliant; excellent at time management & planning.
  • Flexible & willing to pivot with no forewarning.
  • Self-aware of your own shortcomings; never get offended when someone gives you feedback regardless of how it's given (even though yes, it should be given respectfully).
  • There is something that you love to do outside of work, and you love teaching other people about that thing.
What You Know:
  • Kotlin.
  • Android SDK.
  • RESTful APIs and how to connect Android applications to back-end services.
  • Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks.
  • Cloud message APIs and push notifications.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) - especially serverless.
  • Test-Driven Development, DevOps, Agile ScrumBan.
  • Functional programming philosophy & patterns.
  • Oh, and also OOP.
  • Containers...like the ones you used as a child to hold your collection of little figurines.
  • Go.
  • Java.
  • Bash.
  • C & C .
  • Makefiles.
  • Docker.
  • Real-time messaging - NATS, Kafka, or similar.
  • How to read...fast & comprehend the information quickly.
  • Space & time complexity, but more about when it's important and why.
  • The difference between an I/O problem & a memory problem.
  • Static vs dynamic typing.
What You've Done:
  • Something different and more challenging than the things most people that you know have done.
  • Projects - they are more important than keywords or degrees.
  • Bonus points if we actually get to see the code.
  • Knowledge is just the baseline. who you are and how you are = the deciding factor.
The Job:
  • Solve problems & build new things that provide value.
  • Collaboratively brainstorm and design the solutions.
  • Constantly try to prove your "best idea" wrong.
  • Write code...that's what we're all here for, right?
  • Learn something new every single day.
  • And most important, catalyze change.
The Hiring Process:
Track for Experience Projects = Submit Application > 15 Minute Personality Phone Call > 90 Minute Live Coding & Interview > Get an Offer > Start Working
Track for Less Experience || Less Projects = Submit Application > Technical Assessment > 15 Minute Personality Phone Call > 90 Minute Live Coding & Interview > Get an Offer > Start Working
Final Notes:
Notice that there is no education requirement or years of experience in the role. That's because we believe that potential and grit outshine traditional education and pedigree in the long run. We are not here for a short-term win. We are here to fundamentally change the way that parents and children experience technology together.
We believe that parents should not feel so afraid when they think about giving their child a smartphone with access to social media. We believe that parents shouldn't control or limit children's exploration. We believe that no company should create tools that place judgments on how parents parent. And we believe that mindfulness about technology use and activity can eradicate the endemic of mental health issues in young kids correlated to social media and internet access.
If that is something that excites you, come row the boat with us. We're rowing to the peak of Mt. Everest together. :)
