Position Summary:

The Senior Project Manager, Construction (the “Sr. PM”) for CWS Fence & Guardrail is responsible for the preparation of project parameters, strategies, and execution of the work. This includes developing and implementing a comprehensive project plan and schedule for each construction project, ensuring material availability and assigning and communicating project installation responsibilities to the Supervisors daily. In collaboration with the Manager – Project Implementation, the Sr. PM will ensure project activities occur efficiently and effectively, comply with OSHA, customer, and internal safety requirements, and will effectively manage schedule changes as they arise. The Sr. PM is responsible for each job's success, including complete project documentation, field reporting, quantity verification, job costing and customer communication.

This position requires clear and consistent written and verbal communication with internal and external resources, and a high degree of organization, documentation, and accuracy. Additionally, the role requires significant accessibility, accountability, and coordination to ensure that all project related documentation is being completed in a timely manner, and the project related information is always up to date and readily available to Management, customers and state DOTs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Company’s operations and processes beginning with the identification of bid opportunities and estimating through to project completion, reporting and invoicing
  • Learn the details of guardrail and bridge rail specifications and construction. Conduct site visits to active projects, ride along with the Manager – Project Implementation and Supervisors and take and complete all available guardrail training courses
  • Collaborate with the VP – Projects to understand the contract, details, expectations, schedule and budget for each project in a formal new project preparation process
  • Create a detailed Project Plan for every project, including target schedule, daily implementation plan (locations, load list, equipment, crew composition), pre-implementation documentation requirements, and a summary of material and equipment requirements, designed to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction in a cost-effective manner
  • Prepare a construction budget and cost forecasts based on the original project estimate including properly setting up and tracking job performance within HCSS HeavyJob
  • Develop and prepare project item submittals, shop drawings and RFIs in accordance with project standards and specifications. Maintain tracking systems for every project to ensure all job specific requirements are met
  • Advise and coordinate with Manager – Project Implementation to develop long and short-range schedules to ensure equipment and manpower are appropriately allocated to align with project goals in an efficient manner
  • Communicate daily with the Manager – Project Implementation and Supervisors to clearly explain contract scope and project specific technical data, and make schedule or layout adjustments as needed
  • Manage the preparation, filing and maintenance of internal up to date digital records and reports in the shared file system, including: Project List, Contracts, Project Packets, Load Lists, etc.
  • Assist with inventory management and material purchases, including developing purchase lists
  • Track and report all current project statuses, schedules, and budgets on a regular basis
  • Assist with maintenance of the shared digital company calendar, updated daily, with current Project schedules
  • Attend weekly meetings with Management to communicate the scheduled work for the upcoming two weeks and report actual project performance vs. planned performance after jobs have completed
  • Communicate with Vendors, Customers and Employees in a clear, consistent manner
  • Provide additional support as directed by the Executive Vice President
  • Keep up to date with new products/systems in the marketplace

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a Construction Project Management role, preferably with prior Field Supervisory experience in road or heavy construction
  • Comprehensive knowledge of heavy highway construction processes, operations, safety, traffic control, compliance, and specifications
  • Engineering or Project Management degree is preferred
  • Familiarity with reading plans, experience developing project plans and schedules, and tracking and reporting job quantities and costs is required
  • Strong technology skills. Mastery of MS Office suite, digital plan software, and HCSS HeavyJob or similar construction reporting software preferred
  • Highly organized, accurate and accountable. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
  • Self-starter, sound judgment, positive attitude, initiative, and adaptability to a changing work environment

Required Certificates/Licenses (can be achieved within first 3 months of employment at the Company's expense):

  • OSHA 10 card – received for completion of Construction Course
  • Traffic Control Technician and Traffic Control Supervisor certifications to assist drafting traffic control plans
