Job Title: Public Information Officer & Salary: $55,000 - $59,000

Department: Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Reports to: Unit Supervisor &
& Communications Unit ICAC Commander
Location: The Justice Center & ICAC offsite location Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
1200 Ontario Street - 9th floor Monday - Friday
Cleveland, Ohio 44113 (variable shifts and hours)
REQUIREMENTS:
Associates degree in public relations, communications or law enforcement related field with three (3) years of previous experience in law enforcement and public speaking, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
FUNCTION :
The purpose of this classification is to perform public information and public relations tasks for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office (CCPO) by planning, coordinating, and conducting outreach presentations, trainings, and events with local schools and community organizations that contain vital child and teen safety information.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participates in development, implementation, and presentation of public information and public relations tasks (e.g., press releases, public records requests, pamphlets, written material, etc.) for the Prosecutor's Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force as well as the CCPO Communications Unit;
  • Develops, coordinates, and participates in related community outreach programs and projects (e.g. Operation Child Protect Events, Night out Against Crime, etc.); conducts school and community presentations; assists ICAC Commander in planning and conducting training; prepares PowerPoint presentations and/or orders training materials and supplies;
  • Maintains proper communications channels with affiliated law enforcement agencies;
  • Represents the Task Force and CCPO before various boards and community organizations;
  • Attends and participates in group meetings and trainings;
  • Assists the CCPO Communications Unit on related assignments and programs when needed;
  • Maintains and updates social media accounts for the Prosecutor's Office and the Ohio ICAC Task Force, including the posting of relevant information and news, the creation of images and videos promoting the activities of the office and ICAC, and the timely response to communications and messages;
  • Performs a wide variety of routine clerical work including sorting, filing, copying, verifying, recording information on records, and sending correspondence or notices; and
  • Performs all other duties assigned, delegated, or required of the Public Information Officer & Outreach Coordinator as well as those prescribed by law.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :
  • Ability to comprehend a variety of informational documents including media/consumer requests for information, statistical reports, case updates and committee reports, and other reports and records.
  • Ability to comprehend relevant legal authority including but limited to federal law, National ICAC Guides, Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, and grant guidelines.
  • Ability to prepare speeches, invoices, outreach programs, vehicle mileage reports, reports, announcements, memoranda of understanding, policy statements, and other job-related documents using prescribed format.
  • Ability to convince and influence others, to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow instructions.
  • Ability to use and interpret legal terminology and language.
  • Ability to communicate with media, advocacy groups, customers, lawyers, judges, school and community leaders, law enforcement personnel, directors, managers, support staff, legislators and elected officials.
  • Must possess qualities of fairness, a strong work ethic, have the highest integrity; and must also maintain the confidentiality of law enforcement and investigatory records and other confidential information;
  • Must be able to conduct business in accordance with federal statutes and guidelines, the Ohio Revised Code, and the Ohio Administrative Code.
