Cushing Academy seeks to hire an experienced and creative teacher of English to begin August 15, 2024 to also serve as chair of the English Department. Responsibilities include teaching four sections of high school English, assisting in athletics for two seasons, and serving as an advisor. The English Department Chair coordinates the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices within the department to ensure that they align with the Academy’s mission, vision, and priorities. Residential life duties are required, and housing is provided.
Successful candidates will have an exceptional ability to develop and maintain positive and healthy relationships with a diverse range of adolescents. Candidates should demonstrate an ongoing commitment to creating and supporting an inclusive educational environment and a willingness to examine their own educational practices through an anti-oppression and anti-racist framework.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in a related field (master's preferred) and at least five years of experience teaching at the high school level. Familiarity with independent schools is necessary, and boarding school experience is particularly helpful.
