HR and Safety Assistant

Reports To: Safety Director

Status: Hourly, Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Position Location: Georgia Region

Position Overview:

The HR and Safety Assistant performs administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization's Human Resources and Safety departments. This position acts as an initial point of contact for the HR and Safety needs of the Georgia region. Additionally, this position assists in projects to support the HR and Safety needs of the organization across all of our companies and locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts or assists with new hire orientation.
  • Maintain a log of recruiting applicant flow.
  • Sort and disseminate incoming applications.
  • Support the Head of Human Resources with special projects and employee relations matters in the Georgia region.
  • Intake accident reports, assisting in investigation, collecting photos, and statements.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department.
  • Assist in the submission of OSHA 300 Logs.
  • Assist in submitting Worker's Compensation, general liability, and vehicle insurance claims.
  • Research safety topics.
  • Assist in Training programs focusing on the specific needs of a project.
  • Assist in General safety training for Curtin Co./CTD/O’Brien/ Eagle Needs
  • Assist in the Development of safety toolbox talks as needed.
  • Completes of paperwork associated with safety inspections, accident/incident follow-up, OSHA inspections, employee training, and safety orientations.
  • Fields basic HR inquiries.
  • Supports timekeeping for assigned regions.
  • Assists in benefits enrollment.
  • Update fellow safety managers about new safety approaches and information compiled at seminars and education programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • OSHA-10 Certification, or the ability to obtain upon taking the position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Able to travel locally and overnight, up to 10% of the time.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Trainable and able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software programs.
  • Ability to learn quickly and to creatively solve new problems.
  • Attention to detail and advanced organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a cross-functional team environment.

This position will work directly with employee files and will perform services for the Company that may require the Company to disclose confidential and proprietary information to the Employee. (Confidential Information is information and data of any kind concerning any matters affecting or relating to the business or operations of the company, and/or the products, drawings, plans, processes, or other data of the Company not generally known or available outside of the company. As well as protected information belonging to other employees such as social security numbers, payrates, and medical information for them and members of their family.) As such this position will require the employee to sign a Confidentiality Agreement agreeing to protect the confidential and proprietary information of the Company and its employees.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
  • May occasionally be exposed to noise, dust, and a variety of substances that are typically associated with a construction site.
