Machinist: CNC Vertical Mill – Job Description

Curbtender is a family-owned company that manufactures garbage collection trucks. Curbtender is looking for a machinist with experience on Haas VMC equipment. Additional experience with press brakes or plasma cutting tables is a plus.

Machinists are responsible for the primary fabrication of piece parts, preparing parts for assembly, and ensuring correct tolerances. Machinists are also responsible for fabricating or assembling tooling, jigs, fixtures, and die work. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform machining operations on all types of materials, but predominately ferrous metals. 
  • Work from and in accordance with specifications and design criteria including but not limited to verbal instructions, drawings, and blueprints; performs standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, speeds, and feeds of machining.
  • Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments; maintains accurate dimensional tolerances based upon drawings. 
  • Selects the appropriate cutting tools to maximize efficiency and ensure quality of product.
  • Fabricate complicated parts having many interrelated dimensions, compound angles, irregular surfaces, coordinate, and exacting tolerances requiring the layout of parts, the selection and use of hand tools, and/or the setup and operation of various machine tools.
  • Improvise production aides as necessary to facilitate operations.
  • Rework and calibrates production parts or assemblies and machine tooling as required; checks each component for accuracy.
  • Suggest changes in design involving productivity and process of manufacture to proper staff.
  • Possesses and maintains thorough knowledge of industry, machinery, and techniques.
  • Possesses and maintains thorough knowledge of all applicable safety regulations and considerations.
  • Provides all required reports and/or correspondence and tracks all work in manufacturing software.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Required to stand/walk continuously
  • Required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
  • Continually required to lift/push/carry items less up to 50 pounds/ more than 50 pounds 
  • Work near moving mechanical parts 
  • Exposure to extreme heat or cold (weather)
  • Exposure to loud noise
