CURA, Inc. is Hiring an ADDICTION COUNSELOR INTERN Near Newark, NJ

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION: High School diploma, a college degree preferred. Able to read and write in English. Computer literacy required to operate email, internet, MS word and office and Agency operational software. Enroll in the substance abuse education program to complete education requirements for CADC or LCADC.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year working experience in a licensed substance abuse program as a treatment associate, support staff or comparable position.

SPECIAL CLIENT-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS: Capable of working effectively in a self-directed role, able to multi-task and problem-solve. Each job responsibility and competency measurement include the following requirements: the ability to coordinate work of others, able to manage and coordinate multiple tasks while dealing with clients, able to appropriately manage clients? behaviors and motivate them to follow treatment protocols and schedules. Ability to work independently and under supervision, Ability to communicate effectively with all clients from adult age to geriatric, co-workers, individually and in group setting. Telephone etiquette.

ESENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Uphold organizational mission, values, vision and support the integrated process of care while exhibiting integrity and ethics in all endeavors.
  • Knowledge of the 12-Step Recovery program and process knowledge of all applicable Federal, State and regional regulations, including Accreditation standards that govern treatment of substance use disorders including confidentiality, patient rights, ethics, and discrimination.
  • Consult with supervisor whenever a conflict pertaining the Code of Ethics arises.
  • Interact with clients, staff, and client family members in an appropriate therapeutic and professional manner.
  • Accommodate to agency?s different working schedules and facilities.
  • Document all individual counseling, group counseling psychoeducation services, assessments, reassessments, referrals, and follow-up in the client?s electronic health record in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Contact referral sources providing case consultations and coordination with referral sources i.e. Recovery Court, MAP Parole, DCP&P, Federal Parole, ISP, Probation, DWI initiative
  • Obtain appropriately signed consents when soliciting from or providing information to outside sources to protect client confidentiality and rights.
  • Provide Orientation to clients following the orientation manual, on an individual and/or group basis within the first week of treatment.
  • Initiate an initial treatment plan within 72 hours of admission, and the complete a master treatment plan within the first four weeks of treatment. Treatment plans must be completed in collaboration with the client and updated a minimum of once per month.
  • Treatment plans should be client-centered, recovery oriented, and measurable.
  • Assessing clients using the standardized or evidence-based assessment tools and diagnosing clients for substance use disorders using the DSM 5 under supervision.
  • Gather relevant history from client including by not limited to alcohol and other drug abuse using the appropriate assessment tools and interview techniques.
  • Evaluate psychological, social, and physiological signs and symptoms of substance related and mental health disorders using appropriate assessment tools.
  • Identify any existing conditions (medical, physical, psychiatric, etc.) that indicate need for additional professional assessment and/or services and make appropriate referrals.
  • Obtain previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode upon securing proper consent to release information form
  • Develop an Interpretive Summary within the first week of treatment.
  • Identify the appropriate therapeutic approaches and resources to be utilized with each individual client.
  • Develop and review discharge plans at least once per month.
  • Individualize counseling in accordance with cultural, gender, and lifestyle differences.
  • Prepare and discuss clients? clinical cases with the clinical team and explain the rationale for all actions taken throughout the course of treatment including any case management activities done for the client.
  • Identifying the needs of a client that cannot be met by the counselor or agency, coordinate services for the client, and assisting the client to utilize the support systems and community resources available.
  • Seek a consult with supervisor whenever issues are identified that are beyond your base of knowledge and skills in accordance with the agency policies and procedures
  • Consult with supervisor to ensure the provision of effective treatment services.
  • Utilize clinical staff meetings, case conferences, direct supervision, and clinical supervision to ensure proper quality of care for client.
  • Implement an immediate course of action appropriate to a crisis under the direction of the supervisor and in accordance with the agency policies and procedures
  • Transport clients, as necessary.
  • Manage an assigned case load of twelve clients.
  • Keep all records in designated place to ensure safety and confidentiality in accordance with the agency policy and procedures.
  • Send documentation pertaining to client?s admission, participation, progress and discharge status and other relative data to referral sources keeping in mind the time deadlines and authorization for release of information in accordance with the agency policy and procedures.
  • Conduct a peer-review of clinical records, review folders and provide a report of the findings to the Director.
  • Obtain random urine sample for drug screening as assigned.
  • Supervise clients while they self-administer their medication as assigned.
  • Procedures must be followed to ensure that any required reporting is done immediately to the Director of the Program or Delegate, by completing an incident report in Accreditation within 24 hours.
  • When driving an agency car inspect if for safety, fill the mileage log, ensure that it is kept clean and refrain from smoking while in it. Operation of the company vehicles should be conducted in a safe manner adhering to New Jersey vehicle operation laws.
  • Orientate, train and supervise the House Committee in accordance with the modified TC model.
  • Complete Relias trainings in accordance to the agency policies and procedures
  • Enrolled in substance disorder education course to complete NJ education requirements toward the CADC or LCADC.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, talk, and listen in various location withing the Agency at noisy environment for extended periods of time. The employee will be required to move around the premises periodically. The employee must have the ability to operate a personal computer and can express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken and written word. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to lift or move 5 to 35 pounds items by him / herself. Mental requirements include the ability to read, write, concentrate, reason, analyze, evaluate, problem solve, multi-task and perform mathematical calculations.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The noise level in the primary work environment is usually moderate with multiple individuals working and conversing, business office with computer printer, and light traffic. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
