POSITION DETAILS
CUNY School of Law is a national leader in progressive legal education with a dual mission of training a diverse group of students to become excellent public interest attorneys and providing access to the profession for members of historically underrepresented communities. As part of its mission, the School prepares students to practice "Law in the Service of Human Needs," including intensive license preparation.
The Associate Director will be a point person in maintaining employer relations responsibilities, and will play akey role in helping the Career Planning Office make strategic choices regarding where to focus its efforts in employer recruitment.
The Associate Director’s duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Conduct research to identify short-term and long-term trends in the legal employment market by attendingconferences, keeping up with industry news, talking to legal employers and “headhunters”; and the skills orknowledge areas for students to become competitive candidates.
Research students’ career interests through surveys and focus groups and outreach to student clubs.
Making recommendations on employers the Career Planning Office should target; also make recommendations to changes incurricular offerings that would make our students competitive applicants. The Associate Director would sit onthe faculty Curriculum Committee so that s/he could be participate in curricular issues and advocate for coursesor course changes that would better advantage students in the legal job market.
*Liasing with the Alumni Office as it relates to:
Systematically, mining and developing alumni relationships for the purpose of employer recruitment orfor using alumni as networking resources for students.
Formulating and coordinating a program of advisement and training for alumni to help them addressissues such moving up the ladder in a career (moving into higher level positions within or outside their existing workplace) or exploring new career avenues (e.g., how to become a judge workshops).
Has some responsibilities in advising current students; assist in the running of programs for students;assist in employment related reporting.
Evening/Weekend work may apply.
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work 30% remotely and work 70% in the office.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree
At least 3 years of previous experience doing advisement and programming in a career service office or previous experience doing student-facing work in a university or professional school setting.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with office productivity tools including Office365, Zoom and/or Peoplesoft software

Assists in unit planning, such as setting goals and objectives, and monitors status of progress toward meeting goals
Designs and produces outcomes assessment reports; reviews outcomes and feedback and recommends strategies to expand and improve services.
Directs a portfolio of targeted career programs, such as mentoring, internship, and alumni programs
Manages one or more aspects of career office operations, such as on-campus recruiting
Evaluates new technologies, assessment materials, and other career tools, makes recommendations, and acquires/implements them
May counsel a limited number of students
Performs related duties as assigned.
