POSITION DETAILS

ABOUT CENTRO: The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, is a university-based research institute whose mission is to produce, facilitate, and disseminate interdisciplinary research about the experiences of Puerto Ricans in the U.S. and to collect, preserve, and provide access to archival and library resources documenting the history and culture of Puerto Ricans.

About the Position: This position will play a key role in reimagining Centro's existing Educational Programming and in developing and fundraising for new initiatives. The director will supervise a team of scholars and interns in the development of curricular material, study guides, and learning resources for students and adult learners. The Director will be charged with reimagining Centro's existing educational offerings and work directly with K-12, Higher Education, and professional school systems to create content, curriculum, and other tools that advance national understanding of Puerto Rican and Diasporican history, culture, economy, and more. In addition, the director of Educational Programs will work in partnership with other units in the creation of multimedia content and public programs and workshops with teachers. Ideal candidates will have experience in fundraising, advocacy, and collaboration with government agencies and representatives. The Director of Educational Programs reports directly to the Center Director.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of Centro's educational programs.

  • Participate in staff meetings.

  • Develop content that is engaging and grasps the attention of viewers.

  • Create presentations for a variety of educational subjects relevant to Centro's focus and events.

  • Use diverse methods, resources, and teaching strategies to reach young and adult learners to build on the cultural and linguistic diversity of Puerto Ricans in the diaspora.

  • Promote critical communication activities for interactive classroom management to empower authentic and high-quality lifelong learning experiences.

  • Restructure and coordinatethePuerto Rican Heritage Cultural Ambassador Program

  • Develop procedures and materials for teachers to implement curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Education

  • Knowledge and passion for Puerto Rican Diaspora History

  • Fundraising and Grant writing experience

  • Supervision experience

  • Experience in educational/curriculum development

  • Effective in written communication

  • Analytical and Creative

  • Ability to put together informative works into presentations.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills in order to create and nurture partnerships with other educators, institutions, and authors.

  • Able to collaborate with multiple individuals at varying levels.

  • Knowledge of NY state education standards

  • Knowledge of trends in instructional methods and educational technology

  • Experience in Microsoft and Google applications

  • Designs, implements and monitors a comprehensive academic program development plan

  • Administers all curricular, administrative, and financial aspects of the program
