POSITION DETAILS

Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Faculty is a senior member of the College and is directly responsible for the recruitment, retention, and development of Queensborough’s faculty. At a fundamental level, the Dean works to support the College’s strategic plan, with a focus and understanding of assessment and experience with using evidence to evaluate the achievement of goals and to inform the setting of priorities. As the leader most directly involved in shaping and developing faculty, the Dean has a significant impact on the intellectual life and academic future through hiring decisions, faculty support, and strategic initiatives. To support the mission and goals of Academic Affairs, the Dean works with faculty governance committees on the hiring, reappointment, promotion, and tenure process; convenes discussion groups of department chairs and faculty on academic issues and initiatives; serves as the faculty’s advocate at the College; and may be asked to participate in the President’s Cabinet.

The Dean of Faculty will:

  • Take a leadership position in all faculty development efforts at the college.

  • Promote and support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives.

  • Assist/mentor faculty with the tenure and promotion process.

  • Oversee faculty recruitment and appointment efforts for the Office of Academic Affairs.

  • Design and implement new faculty orientation and ongoing faculty development.

  • Supervise faculty workload, including Independent Study and Co-Op Courses.

  • Oversee and support faculty research and undergraduate research efforts, including all areas around compliance.

  • Identify and pursue college-wide grant opportunities for faculty development, especially as it pertains to innovative High Impact Practices (HIPs).

  • Supervise the Director for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).

  • Supervise faculty fellows assigned to OAA, as needed.

  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • An advanced degree in a discipline appropriate to one of the academic departments of the college.

  • Administration and supervisory experience in higher education, preferably in a community college setting.

  • Experience in faculty professional development.

  • Knowledge of current pedagogical theories and practices, pedagogical research methods, and assessment.

  • Experience with High Impact Practices (HIPs) such as learning communities, writing intensive, service learning and undergraduate research is highly desirable.

  • A history of publication in the discipline and/or in pedagogy.

  • Experience with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives.

  • Experience administering grants and writing grant proposals.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

The position is currently hybrid, subject to change, and requires mostly on-site work.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

$ 142,447 to $ 185,000
