CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn offering 58 associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a full-time College Laboratory Technician (CLT) in the Restorative Dentistry Department, to begin in the Fall 2024 semester.

The Restorative Dentistry department has five full-time faculty, nineteen part-time faculty members, four adjunct CLTs and one administrative assistant. It offers an Associate in Applied Science degree (AAS) in Dental Laboratory Technology, which is accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

The CLT will be expected to set up, maintain, and organize the department’s laboratories, as well as purchase, receive, and manage the inventory of equipment and supplies for all offered courses. The CLT will also be expected to develop relationships with vendors and attend trade shows in order to support departmental laboratory needs.

Under the direction of the Department Chair, the CLT will provide support to the teaching faculty and adjunct CLTs, and is expected to collaborate as a member of a team, exert cooperative effort, and to contribute to a positive learning experience in laboratory courses in a growing dental laboratory technology program.

In addition to performing general duties, the CLT will be expected to:

• Coordinate OSHA and Infection control compliance programs.

• Conduct and maintain inventories of equipment and materials, and oversee purchasing process from requisition to receiving.

• Assist with budget preparation for equipment and supplies and maintain budgetary records.

• Contact vendors for price quotes.

• Attend relevant trade shows.

• Coordinate work schedules for adjunct CLTs.

Weekend or evening hours may be required, as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• An associate degree or higher in Dental Laboratory Technology or a related field.

• Experience in the set-up, organization, operation and maintenance of dental laboratories and equipment.

• Current knowledge of all phases of laboratory needs in each of the specialties of dental technology.

• Demonstrated technical proficiency in dental CAD/CAM systems.

• Experience in evaluating dental materials.

• Knowledge of preventative maintenance for laboratory equipment.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications for documentation, reporting and tracking purposes.

COMPENSATION

$54,222 - $65,896. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
