POSITION DETAILS
The City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest public urban university system, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Associate Director to join the Financial Aid team at Hostos Community College. The mission of Hostos is to offer access to higher education leading to intellectual growth and socioeconomic mobility through the development of linguistic, mathematical, technological, and critical thinking proficiencies needed for lifelong learning and for educational and career success. The Office of Financial Aid at Hostos Community College carries out this mission by eliminating financial barriers for access to higher education and delivering a transparent understanding of financial aid programs, options and eligibility with strict adherence to city, state, and federal student aid regulations.
Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, the successful candidate will serve as the Associate Director and represent the Director at internal and external meetings, committees, workshops, etc. The Associate Director of Financial Aid may manage crucial programs such as Title IV Recalculation (R2T4), Direct Loans, Federal Work-Study, or Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) – with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. The Associate Director will also serve as a dedicated backup, stepping in to support other program areas as needed and be responsible for the following duties, in addition to the CUNY Title Overview:
Manages the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office: This includes staffing, scheduling and an emphasis on customer service to provide expert guidance and counseling to students and their families on all aspects of financial aid, from application and award to disbursements and appeals (including special circumstances, professional judgments).
Develops and implements strategies to increase awareness of financial aid resources; collaborates with academic advisors, faculty, and other administrators to create targeted outreach campaigns to prevent underutilization of financial aid.
Manages a team of financial aid staff: Fosters a positive, accountable, and inclusive, service-centered culture of continuous improvement, provide training and professional development opportunities in an environment that values, supports, and empowers individual & collective team members.
Ensures compliance with federal, state and University financial aid regulations: Stays current on ever-changing regulations and implements updates effectively to maintain program integrity and accuracy.
Analyzes data and prepares reports: Monitors student financial aid trends, program effectiveness, budget adherence, enrollment impact, and presents findings to senior staff for informed decision-making.
Manages software systems such as COD, CPS, NSLDS, HESC, CUNYfirst and Campus Logic to ensure accurate and timely financial aid administration.
Essential duties require on-campus presence.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.
The following qualifications are preferred:
Experience in financial aid administration at the higher education level
Possess the character and ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations and community partners
A demonstrated track record of success in team leadership and managing financial aid programs
Proficient knowledge of federal Title IV and NYS financial aid statutes, regulations, practices, and resources
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Commitment to social justice and addressing economic disparities in education
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Flexible scheduling during peak business and available to work evening and weekend hours.
Strong working knowledge and understanding of PeopleSoft or CUNYfirst web-based navigation and writing extensive reports via SQL and/or PS Query
Some work experience with, and/or willingness to learn & lead programs with federal regulations such as R2T4 calculations, Federal Work Study, Direct Loans, or Satisfactory Academic Progress
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, Forms, Teams, Access and PowerPoint

Manages financial aid activities and represents the office at on-campus and off-campus meetings and forums
Manages day-to day administrative and systems operations for optimal efficiency and customer service; manages special processes such as Return of Title IV Aid
Provides comprehensive financial counseling to parents and students
Implements all necessary processes to support financial aid application, awarding and delivery cycles
Oversees the coordination of financial aid activities with those of other College and University offices
Implements and maintains web based services
Performs related duties as assigned.
