POSITION DETAILS

Reporting directly to the Psychology Advising Specialist, the Psychology Advising Coordinator will coordinate academic advisement to the college’s diverse urban student population, as well as providing basic administrative support for the department’s academic counseling needs.

Their responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Assist in the development and implementation of MA program initiatives and respond to MA program-related inquiries and issues.

• Serve as resource for students and faculty regarding program policies and procedures.

• Communicate curricular information and assist with resolving curricular issues that arise during registration and provide general academic advisement.

• Collect and review syllabi to ensure compliance with standards.

• Monitors student enrollment; processes course registration and over-tallies, changes of grade and attendance, thesis submission and defense, and degree audits

• Collect and maintain statistical data.

• Prepare reports and surveys using student information and enrollment data.

• Update office databases, lists, and files to ensure accuracy within set deadlines.

• Collect and synthesize data in preparation for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports; write brief narratives for these reports to explain the data.

• Monitor assigned part-time workers daily.

• Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required.

  • Two years experience in a higher education setting, preferably in advising, counseling, or a similar field.

  • Good judgement and responsiveness in working with a broad range of student needs and backgrounds.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including solid writing and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously, meet time-sensitive deadlines, and work in a precise and accurate manner.

  • Able to exhibit independent initiative and good judgment, and work collaboratively with students, faculty, and administrators.

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends (when needed) during peak operations periods.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.

  • Experience with CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks and Navigate preferred.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Provides basic administrative support for the academic counseling program.

  • Coordinates group student academic counseling and advisement workshops; schedules on-going advisement sessions

  • Works with students to resolve academic issues by providing policy information and/or referrals

  • Assists with training students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies

  • Conducts workshops for new faculty

  • Updates advisement communication materials

  • May conduct surveys of student services to evaluate program effectiveness; compiles data to prepare activity reports as needed

  • May occasionally offer general academic advisement to students in degree and certificate programs.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
