Description

Staff Accountant/Payroll Specialist

Cumberland University is looking for a highly capable Staff Accountant/Payroll Specialist to prepare and maintain financial records tracking the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and other related financial activities and process periodic payroll.

Duties/Responsibilities:

* Assist with maintaining the general ledger and preparing regular general ledger entries

* Assist with setting up new accounts and reconciling balance sheet accounts monthly

* Assist with reconciling bank accounts monthly

* Assist with purchase order processing and accounts payable

* Submit monthly and semi-monthly payroll files within the payroll processing software

* Work closely with Human Resources to ensure payroll data, including salaries, overtime earnings, vacation payouts, etc., are populated and calculated correctly within the payroll processing software

* Prepare reports illustrating payroll expenditures, including tax payments and benefit plan disbursements.

* Support purchase cardholders in initiating and terminating cards and reconciling transactions monthly

* Prepare the monthly purchase card entry and maintain related documentation

* Track taxable sales and prepare sales tax returns monthly

* Assist with preparation for audits and quarterly reporting requirements.

* Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Knowledge of general financial accounting and accounting software

* Knowledge of general payroll software and processes

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Education and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting required

* Experience in payroll and related experience required

* Full cycle accounting experience preferred
