Cumberland Mutual is Hiring a Remote Casualty Staff Adjuster

Cumberland Mutual is a Property and Casualty Insurance Company operating out of physical offices in both New Jersey and Ohio and is seeking to hire a Casualty Claims Adjuster. Cumberland Mutual follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands or specific tasks required to complete the job. Fully remote work arrangements are also available and are designed to support flexibility.

The Casualty Claims Staff Adjuster will be required to Investigate, analyze and determine the extent of Cumberland Mutual’s insurance obligation concerning auto physical damage losses or damages as well as claims for auto medical benefits. Effect claim resolutions with insureds and third party claimants. Must be able to provide insureds/claimants with exceptional customer service.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Adjuster will be assigned claims to investigate and resolve.
  • The Adjuster must be able to analyze coverage and claim documentation in order to properly establish a loss reserve.
  • They also must have case file management skills with regards to the monitoring of their phone calls, reserve reporting and diary entry.
  • Investigate and assess damage to motor vehicles and other property and create or review property damage estimates.
  • Investigate and assess medical documentation and billing in connection with injuries sustained as a result of auto accidents
  • Analyze information gathered by investigation, report findings and recommendations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Regularly maintain file notes in Company claims system.
  • Reach equitable settlement of claim.
  • Correspond with or interview agents, witnesses or insureds to compile information.
  • Adhere to various state insurance department regulations and Unfair Claims Practices Act.


Supplemental Job Functions
:

  • The position requires the Adjuster to work occasional extended evening and/or weekend hours, including the handling of escalated after-hours claims calls.
  • The position requires supervision of vendors providing appraisal services as well as medical review services vendors.

Job Competencies: (knowledge, skills & abilities required to perform job)

  • Individual must have superior telephone and writing skills.
  • Self-motivation, organizational and time management skills.
  • Aptitude with regards to the evaluation of property, medical and liability claims.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Microsoft Office; including proficiency in Word and Outlook. Very limited need for Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to read and understand auto repair estimates, property damage repair estimates, appraisal reports, medical records, legal documents and insurance policies.
  • Demonstrated history of providing superior customer service via telephone
  • Aptitude with regard to conflict and dispute resolution
  • Aptitude regarding the assessment of legal responsibility
  • Aptitude regarding the Company’s various systems including Imageright, Pointin, Duck Creek, Salesforce, Microsoft Word/Outlook, One Inc etc.

Education and Experience
:

  • B.A. or B.S. from accredited university preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience adjusting auto physical or auto medical claims preferred
