The Book Shop Clerk supports Cumberland Heights’ mission of providing the highest quality care possible in a cost-effective manner for persons and families who are at risk for or who are suffering from the disease of chemical dependency. Treatment encompasses the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of recovery by offering a safe, loving and healing environment, combining professional excellence and the principles of the Twelve Steps.
The Book Shop Clerk reports to the Alumni Relations Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: sales, cash/check/credit card payment processing and daily deposits, assisting with monthly inventory control.
Responsible for all aspects of sales while on duty including cash, check, and credit card processing;
Keeps accurate computer records of all sales transactions while on duty; completes daily deposit for Accounting;
Works with the Alumni Relations Manager to determine what items are offered for sale in the shop, according to the shop’s purpose and past sales records;
Ensures a welcoming, safe, and healing environment is maintained for patients, families, and alumni throughout the continuum of care;
Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services;
Maintains confidentiality of company and patient information; and
Reacts productively to change.

High school diploma/GED with one year experience in retail management (e.g.inventory control, income/expense management, and bookkeeping) preferred.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to speak, hear, see, stand, sit, walk, stoop, climb, reach and handle; ability to speak, read and write in English; good problem-solving and interpersonal skills; good written and oral communication skills; proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications and office equipment; simple bookkeeping skills. Familiarity with Twelve Step philosophy and recovering community preferred; If recovering, two years of verifiable abstinence required; active participation in the appropriate Twelve Step Program preferred.
Position is generally in a small store setting that involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions. Hours include evenings and weekends
