Cumberland County Schools is Hiring a Physical Therapy Assistant - Open Recruiting Near Fayetteville, NC

TITLE: Physical Therapy Assistant

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must upload into the application a legible copy of an official transcript showing a Physical Therapy Assistant Program completed and a copy of the NCBOE for Physical Therapy Assistants to qualify. Prior pediatric experience preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicates student progress on IEP to the supervising physical therapist; shares pertinent information as physical therapist develops IEP goals; reports significant changes in student status to supervising physical therapist.
  • Maintains current professional physical therapy assistant licensure; follows guidelines set by North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners per the North Carolina Physical Therapy Practice Act.
  • Communicates student progress to classroom teachers, parents, and other IEP team members; gives suggestions to teachers on ways that they can help meet IEP goals.
  • Adjusts student classroom adaptive equipment; communicates with supervising physical therapist the possible need for repair of and/or ordering of student equipment that is relevant to the student’s educational needs.
  • Supervises teacher (caregiver) and/or student in their return demonstration of procedures taught to them.
  • Writes physical therapy progress notes on student following treatment session and documents all communication regarding student.
  • Submits billable minutes of direct physical therapy treatment per Medicaid billing guidelines.
  • Grades student IEP progress quarterly and submits copy to teacher to send home with student report card.
  • Assists with in-services.
  • Attends PT/OT staff meetings.
  • Attends IEP meetings as needed.
  • Demonstrates professional growth through continuing education (literature and/or classes).
  • Participates in quality improvement projects.
  • Informs supervising physical therapist of student IEP expiration date, IEP planning meetings and IEP team meetings.
  • Serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing diversity.
  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
  • Must have finger dexterity and be physically able to perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
  • Hand and finger dexterity for accurate input and output of computer data.
  • Must be able to express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work usually requires walking and standing to a significant degree.
  • Must be able to perform medium lifting exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must use a 2-person lift for students 50 to 100 pounds and a 3-person lift for students 100 to 150 pounds.
