Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA is Hiring a Summer Day Camp Site Coordinator @ Somers Point- Jordan Road School Near Somers, NJ

The CCA YMCA 2024 Camp Season will start on June 17th and run through August 23rd. Interviews have begun. Paid training for staff is anticipated to begin in late April, early May. Day Camp Site Coordinators will start at $16.61 per hour and Somers Point staff receive a $1.50 per hour shift differential in addition to their hourly rate.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of the day camp counselors as well as children at the seasonal day camp site. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience. The Day Camp Site Coordinator will have a passion for working with youth and children and shall be a leader and role model for the staff they work with, the children in the programs, and the community we serve.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees the day camp location that they are assigned to include overseeing camp counselors and the children at the site and is responsible for reporting all issues and concerns to the Assistant Director/Director in a timely manner
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, captures the children’s interest and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety, child protection, and cleanliness standards.
  • Is aware of and keeps up daily on camper’s allergies and custody concerns with pick up and drop off as it relates to the campers and their safety
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Cultivates positive and healthy relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Supervise, lead, guide, motivate and consistently interact with staff staff while they work with a group of 10-20 campers and ensure a positive, safe and nurturing camp experience for each participant at all times.
  • Works in cooperation with all counselors in planning weekly special events for the campers that relate to the theme for that week.
  • Ensure that counselors are following and facilitating the planned schedule of activities and arrive at each session promptly.
  • Sends a photo daily, being aware of which campers are not able to have photos taken and shared, taken with the camp iPad and sent to the Camp Director of the activities that day
  • Ensure timely submission of all paperwork, lesson plans, etc.
  • Acquaint campers with rules, activities, daily schedules, and traditions of camp.
  • Keep daily attendance and be constantly aware of the campers under their care throughout the day and at each new activity.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to the Director as well as complete and submit to the appropriate parties all incident/accident forms correctly and by the end of shift each day.
  • Maintains sensitivity and patience while providing care to meet each child’s individual basic needs.
  • Contact absent campers parent/guardian, documenting the reason for their absence.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the children and staff’s information.
  • Actively participate with campers at all free swim and lesson sessions in the pool or lake.
  • Works in conjunction with outside organizations.
  • Reports to their assigned location on time and prepared for the day. *Site location may be changed at any time based on the needs of the program as well as the organizational needs with as much notice to the employee as practicable*
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 21 years of age upon hire
  • Minimum of 30 college credits or 2 years of childcare experience including in a school age and/or camp setting
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
    program activities.
