Culver Academies is Hiring an International Student Achievement Instructor Near Culver, IN

Culver Academies is seeking an ESL instructor to join our professional community. The ESOL program is under the larger umbrella of the department of International Student Achievement, a department whose main objective is to help all international students adjust and succeed academically. Our ESOL program focuses on teaching English for academic purposes to intermediate to advanced learners of English who are otherwise in mainstream content classes for science, math, wellness, leadership, and fine arts programming. Classes within the ESOL program are at three levels, two of which are taught five days a week in place of the students’ humanities class, and a third level which meets twice a week to support students as they move into their mainstream humanities class. Since Culver is on an intensive 4x4 block schedule, full-time instructors in the program should expect to teach two eighty-five-minute class periods Monday through Friday with typical class sizes of 12-14. In addition to teaching two of the four blocks daily, instructors will collaborate with other colleagues in the department to develop curriculum, make ongoing improvements within the ESOL program, and engage in furthering the wider work of the department. Members of the department of International Student Achievement work as a team in making placement decisions, assisting in academic advising, overseeing the international student orientation, monitoring student progress, and supporting students’ in their studies. Members of the department serve on a number of other campus-wide committees to advocate for and support the international student population, which constitutes approximately 21% of our student body. Candidates for this position should be committed to using technology to enhance student learning. The Culver campus is dedicated to a 1:1 laptop experience, and teachers should view technology as a tool to be utilized in the learning process. Outside of the classroom, Culver faculty engage with students through service in either athletics or residential life. Additionally, Culver instructors serve as mentors to a small group of students. Professional development is available for all instructors and stems from goals set by the individual instructor. Such opportunities could include not only the traditional off-campus workshops and conferences or further training but may also involve on-campus collaborative research, faculty-developed curriculum projects, or attending regularly scheduled on-campus teacher forums for learning support and educational technology. The Culver Academies offers competitive salary and benefits packages and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Successful candidates will have a commitment to fostering belonging and inclusion in concert with our student-generated diversity statement. Interested candidates who find themselves aligned with Culver’s Teaching and Learning Model and supportive of the commitments of a Culver educator should apply.
