Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. (CRA) seeks a Staff Archaeologist with regional experience in the Ohio Valley, including Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania for a position in our Hurricane, West Virginia office. We are looking for a dedicated professional seeking a permanent, full-time position with the opportunity for advancement.

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $65,000 and $70,000 annually; based on experience

Benefits: Full-time offers:

Experience: Minimum 2 years; Graduate degree (MA or PhD) in anthropology preferred

DESCRIPTION

CRA is seeking qualified candidates for a Staff Archaeologist position in our Hurricane, West Virginia office. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in anthropology with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in cultural resource contracting, and will meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards (36 CFR Part 61) for archaeology.

Specific skills we are looking for in this position include:

    • Archaeological experience and knowledge of the Upper and Middle Ohio River Valley.
    • Experience in leading crews of archaeological field technicians and conducting phase I archaeological surveys and phase II archaeological evaluations, including shovel testing and excavation in rugged plateau and mountain terrain.
    • A clear understanding of Section 106 and the ability to apply the associated criteria.
    • Experience in writing and research associated with phase I and phase II technical reports.
    • The ability to conduct lithic analysis and a familiarity with lithic materials in Ohio, West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and western Pennsylvania

Must have the ability to work 8-to-10-hour days in a variety of field conditions. Stooping, bending, and lifting are essential functions of these positions in rugged Appalachian terrain.

Responsibilities include:

    • Direct and manage compliance projects for clients in both the public and private sectors, including multiple simultaneous projects.
    • Assist in the development of scopes of work and oversee projects.
    • Conduct pre-field and archival research.
    • Supervise field staff and manage field crews.
    • Conduct fieldwork for archaeological monitoring, survey, and evaluation, including projects that may require stays away from home.
    • Conduct analyses, interpret analytical data, and prepare technical reports for archaeological monitoring, survey, and evaluation.
    • Interact with clients in a professional and effective manner.
