Job Description Summary
DEFINITION
Under general direction of the Executive Director of Information Technology, perform computer network investigation, planning, implementation and support for all district local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), data communications, desktop hardware, software and peripherals for the college's instructional and administrative purposes. Plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of technology support staff, and perform other related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents are required to have extensive knowledge of, and experience in network technologies, design, implementation and support in a production environment. Technologies include hardware, software and cabling. Incumbent must also have extensive knowledge of desktop hardware, software, and peripherals used in both instructional and administrative areas. Incumbent is responsible for the activities of the technology support staff, and should be able to perform the duties of the technology positions. Incumbents must be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
The incumbent in this position will promote the connection between computer service functions and student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness by ensuring the District's networks are designed to provide the level of technology standards, procedures, and documentation needed to provide adequate services to students, faculty, staff, and managers.

Essential Functions & Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervise, coordinate and report the activities of technology area staff;
Recommend for employment, supervise, and evaluate the work performance of staff;
Responsible for the design, installation and support of the district's networks;
Coordinate professional development of area staff;
Perform goal setting, planning and project management for all technology projects and department plans;
Assist in the development, implementation and assessment of the District's Technology Plan;
Maintain a current hardware and software inventory for the district;
Coordinate development and implementation of district standards regarding instructional technology;
Develop and review documentation for internal standards and area processes;
Recommend and administer area budget;
Serve on district standing committees;
Represent the college in county and statewide college technology activities;
Investigate, test and analyze technologies for use by the College;
Consult with users to identify system requirements. Identify testing and training requirements;
Serve as liaison to appropriate vendors and/or outside consultants. Assist in the development of any purchasing specifications;
Assist with development of proper data security policies and procedures;
Ensure proper implementation and compliance with data security policies and procedures;
Develop and ensure adherence to technology standards, procedures, and documentation;
Provide technology leadership for the College as it pertains to implementation and troubleshooting campus LAN, WAN and microcomputer technology; and
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Required
Any combination equivalent to Associate's degree in computer or electronic field.
Experience:
Required
Four years full-time installation and maintenance of microcomputer local area networks, data communications equipment and software. Preferred
Increased responsibility in a supervisory role or lead capacity.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of:
Mainframe, microcomputers and networking technologies;
Principles and methods of technology system analysis, design and implementation;
Principles and techniques of organization and management;
Network cabling and methodology;
Current Windows and Mac operating systems and deployment strategies;
Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
District policies and procedures.
Ability to:
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
Physical ability to:
Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors;
Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email;
Sit or stand for extended periods of time;
Lift and/or carry 25 pounds; and
Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
License and Certificates (current within the last year) :
Required
Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire.

SALARY SCHEDULE
Below is the full salary schedule range for this position, steps A through E. Per Cuesta College's bargaining agreement, new employees are placed at Steps A through C, which is the anticipated hiring range also listed below. Salary Schedule Range: $7,038 - $8,555 per month.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,038 - $7,759 per month.
