Job Overview

The Specialist, Continuous Improvement will lead multiple plants in developing processes to produce food products more efficiently. This role will be required to have strong end to end food manufacturing process background. The success of this role will be measured through improved performance in Food Safety, Quality, and productivity. This role will own target setting and target adjustments of KPIs including Direct Labor, Yield, Throughput, and Pounds per Direct Labor Hour. Target setting will be data based through using tools such as RedZone, Tableau, and Domo. Skill sets such as Lean, 6-Sigma, Continuous Improvement, TQM, and Change Management will be key to the success of this role. This role will work closely with the Plant Director to set up teams to drive improved performance with a target of 2 productivity projects per quarter. The role includes significant time on the Plant Floor. This role will also partner with Engineering to support OEM Design Capacity and work area layout for ease of production, cleaning, and maintenance.

Responsibilities

1. Overall responsibility for site Industrial Engineering Program, Standard Operation Procedures, and In-process KPIs. The Industrial Engineer develops, implements, and measures the effectiveness of Operations employees and equipment to reduce variations and improve processes and results.2. Leverage “Red Zone” to enhance automation and data collection while also enabling best-practice replication and Continuous Improvement Opportunities 3. Supports a culture with our programs to ensure our hourly workforce is engaging in improving their work, the processes, our safety, Quality, and Cost4. Mentor and ensure that all personnel are familiar with operating processes and procedures, as well as meeting or exceeding HACCP and SQF requirements. 5. Must be able to demonstrate/apply Lean tools, statistical analysis, TQM principles, statistical process control, monitor the plant floor for nonconformance trends and deviations, track and trend KPIs, and help coach and lead 5S and RCA activities. 6. Support the Capital program with leads and justification for productivity improvement and ensure follow-up validation of any savings claims is conducted. Subsequently, ensure the plants incorporate savings into future year budgets.7. Hands-on participation in new product development and engineering improvements to current processes, including cost reduction, manufacturability, functionality, and quality.8. Apply knowledge of process optimization and root cause analyses to project implementations and maintenance activity as needed. 9. Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What we need from you:

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering, and/or related field preferred.• 1-3 years of engineering or applicable experience is strongly preferred• Food Manufacturing experience required• Process improvement certification (Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt) from a recognized agency with formal project application is a plus. • Lean Manufacturing Engineering experience in a food processing environment is preferred. Certifications in Continuous Improvement a plus. Must be willing to train and learn Lean processes and Reliability Maintenance.• Project management, cost analysis, knowledgeable in ISO, USDA, and food customer regulated environments.• Strong mathematical, analytical, and conceptual skills balanced by ability to apply common sense.• Proven ability to leverage the capabilities and insights of individuals with diverse styles, abilities and motivations to achieve strong results.• Ability to remain flexible and adjust promptly and effectively during times of change.• Ability to guide teams to collectively create actionable solutions.• Strong negotiation, oral, and written communication skills.• Experience compiling and presenting engineering documentation and data in Excel, Word, etc.• Applicant must be well-organized, detail-oriented, and a self-starter with demonstrated capacity to learn new technologies and work successfully in a team environment. • Must have strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.• Food Manufacturing experience in a Ready-to-Eat production environment with a firm understanding of sanitary design.• Knowledge of necessary administrative duties to maintain and organize records, reports, or other information.• Skilled in analyzing and documenting simple and complex business processes.• Ability to articulate complex issues clearly and simply to all parties.• Ability to exercise appropriate judgment in decision-making and problem solving; seeks help promptly as necessary.
