We are looking for a Materials Science & Coating Engineerin our Dekalb, IL location.
Here are some details about this position:

Position Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing CST Industries’ DeKalb coating processes to ensure safety, quality, and production standards are maintained and improved; to constantly improve our product quality and on-time performance; and to participate with Standards groups and audits as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Porcelain Enameling Process (DeKalb, IL plant)
    • Identify and / or validate process variables and their relationship to output, efficiency and quality.
    • Define and optimize process control parameters to maximize output, efficiency, and quality.
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions.
    • Validate and maintain labor and material cost standards.
    • Identify and investigate opportunities to improve ROI through process, material, or equipment changes.
    • Develop and oversee all quality control procedures, data, and documentation.
    • Supervise and participate in sampling, testing, and auditing of process outputs for quality control and product development purposes.
    • Work closely with Maintenance to identify and validate procedures that will maximize equipment reliability.
    • Maintain relationships with equipment and material vendors.
  • Oversee DeKalb Materials Lab.
  • Work with Environmental Health and Safety department to ensure that hazardous materials are identified, and proper containment is in place and functional.
  • Manage Standards, obtain data, maintain certifications, and attend events as required for Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI), ISO 28765 (EN 15282), NSF, and other applicable groups
  • Provide Materials Engineering with support for product development, testing, and other areas as needed
  • Give technical presentations when needed
  • Occasionally assist with material quality evaluation and testing at Parsons, KS, Winchester, TN, and Conroe, TX plants.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Chemical (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering and a solid understanding of metals materials science is required.
  • Coatings knowledge desirable but not required
  • Sealants knowledge desirable but not required
  • Water, Wastewater, Petroleum, Dry Bulk application knowledge a plus

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical customers and internal staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Ability to always maintain an upbeat and positive attitude

REASONING ABILITY

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a self-directed, fast-paced professional environment

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and the ability to learn new software as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee works in the office of a manufacturing plant environment with normal exposure to noise, dust, and hazards associated with working in a high traffic, heavy machinery, manufacturing plant. Working hours may vary by area in department and shift. This job requires overtime. Work hours may change at the Management’s discretion with prior notice.
