General Summary:

Through the use of checklists, standard work, and process audits, the Paint Technician follows up on the specific details of paint preparation and application execution for paint production, ensuring that the process and equipment are ready to produce quality/conforming product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Troubleshooting issues to the operation of the paint booths, paint equipment, the bake oven, part prep system and conveyor line by collaboratively developing and implementing the appropriate checklist and process audits.
• Evaluate the part quality coming from the finishing process lines and identifying whether the root cause for defects are originating from paint equipment and/or processing issues.
• Work directly with leadership to determine the root cause and corrective action for defects that are caused by paint equipment and/or processing issues.
• Determines the appropriate Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedule and identifies the PM’s that are to be completed by the High Performance Paint Department Staff.
• Performs periodic Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to the PM’s and ensures that appropriate assignment responsibility either of the High Performance Department staff and/or the Finishing Group Maintenance Department is completed.
• Trains and documents all High Performance Department Staff in the proper PM techniques, record keeping and scheduling.
• Responsible to prepare PM manuals, creates and documents procedures for PM in the event none exist and/or update as necessary.
• Work with outside suppliers as to the correct and timely performance of all PM’s assigned to the High Performance Department.
• Immediately reports any major quality issues to the Paint Lead, Production Supervisor and/or Department Manager.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully while maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

• Knowledge of the HP department paint process.
• Completion of Paint 101, 201 & 301 Crystal Training courses.
• Knowledge of the application of organic coatings on aluminum processes, equipment and a thorough back ground in liquid painting.
• Previous Automotive, architectural or industrial painting experience is necessary.
• Must have a strong working knowledge in paint preparation, resistivity, viscosity, solvent evaporation rates and the environmental impact on these variables.
• A working knowledge of paint preparation is desirable.
• Solid Mechanical aptitude desirable.
• Proven manufacturing problem solving skills.
• Previous training experience preferred.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.
• Must be able to react to change productively and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Above average computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to perform math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.
• Must have excellent attention to detail and must be able to work under the stress of deadlines.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment. Must be self-directed.
• Willing to work flexible hours when necessary.
