Position Summary
Under the supervision of an AT the DME Athletic Training Student is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the overall operations and duties of the DME department. Duties include: fitting and education of all Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as prescribed by the physician including insurance and billing. The DME Athletic Training Student uses professional skills and knowledge to provide safe effective information, patient care instructions and direction to appropriate level of care of CCOC patients. Performs related clinical and clerical duties and assists in the general operations of the DME department at all CCOC locations.
Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities
Obtains authorizations from insurance companies for patient durable medical equipment. Checks patients’ insurance benefits and provides detailed explanation of coverage and benefits to the patients per DME guidelines. Fits patients with prescribed orthosis. This includes patient evaluation, modification and fitting, training the patient on fit and function, as well as answer any DME questions.
Maintenance of the DME inventory management system ensuring accurate dispensing of DME.
Scheduling DME appointments for patients and sending referrals to the appropriate vendor based on insurance restrictions to ensure patients are able to obtain the prescribed medical equipment.
All other duties not specifically assigned.
Position Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: 0 years.
Technical Skills: Knowledge of state-of-the art bracing and orthopedic bracing and supply products and procedures is preferred
Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: BOC preferred.
