Job Summary

The Visitor Information Center Specialist will be responsible for providing destination information to guests and assisting with our continuous distribution efforts for promoting the city and region as well as retail products in the Visitor Info Center Gift Shops. Drawing from an extensive knowledge of the Charlotte region, the Specialist will enthusiastically promote Charlotte in a manner that will encourage repeat visitation that produces additional economic impact for our community. Promote and process sales of retail merchandise in the Visitor Info Center Gift Shops or other pop-up or promotional events. Do you love experiencing all that Charlotte has to offer?   • Essential Job Duties
  • Positively engages with customers to provide friendly and timely on-demand information and advice on the destination and region while listening and providing solutions in person, over the phone, or through email requests in a gracious, attentive, courteous, and service-oriented manner and track accordingly.
  • Proactively researches current and future events with a focus on visitor/newcomer services on local attractions, hotels, restaurants, transportation, economic development, and education resources.
  • Assists with all aspects of the gift shop operations and daily retail transactions and accounting duties.
  • Assist with all aspects of creating and executing presentations to our community and hospitality Partners.
  • Assists team with coordinating pop-up events held within our venues, at VICU and within our community to further destination awareness while increasing retail sales opportunities.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and in a variety of conditions which may consist of nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • May perform other duties as required and adhere to CRVA guidelines throughout.
  • Consistently deliver the best in customer service. Model and be accountable ensuring that customers are always put first by living the CRVA Service Philosophy to deliver memorable customer experiences.

Scope of Responsibility

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities but will assist with ongoing training efforts for team members, as needed.
  • Industry and company meetings include but are not limited to: VIC team meetings, Visit Charlotte weekly and monthly events, experiential training tours, and all CRVA required trainings but not limited to technology, DEI, and customer experience.
  • This front-line position represents CRVA and the City of Charlotte. The Uptown VIC where we work independently or collaboratively provides more in-depth conversations on the city and region to represent our destination fairly and positively.
  • Working in various locations, this position requires the ability to effectively follow safety and security guidelines and communicate concerns and challenges and assist with finding solutions within our company resources.


Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, clients, and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, builds positive relationships, and exceeds expectations to both internal and external guests.
  • Demonstrates initiative to continuously learn more about our destination to better serve our guests, while collaborating with other departments to enhance the guest experience.
  • Upholds high standards of personal appearance and grooming and adheres to uniform guidelines.
  • Enthusiastic salesperson to promote the Queen City.
  • Friendly front-line city ambassador to promote Charlotte.


Education and Experience

  • Associate degree and one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in the travel and tourism field for Charlotte. Bachelor degree preferred but not required.
  • Previous customer service or retail experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and strong organizational skills required.
  • Microsoft Office experience required (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, in addition to Zooms and Teams communications and Google Workspace.)


Physical Demands

  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds or more with a hand or golf cart for regularly stocking materials and/or retail items in our Visitor Info Centers and to hotels, attractions, and kiosks within but not limited to Uptown.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for long periods, walk, lift, or sit.
  • Our venues require daily cleaning and restocking but not limited to sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows and emptying trash daily.


Work Environment

  • The noise level in the work environment varies depending on foot traffic and events.
