Job Summary

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the engineering and facility operations departments at the Bojangles Entertainment Complex along with various event related responsibilities and assisting the General Manager with daily staff oversight.

Job Responsibilities

A. Essential Job Duties
  • Direct day-to-day activities, plan and assign work and establish performance and development goals for team members. Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to help manage conflict, improve team member performance, and recognize good performance.
  • Promote teamwork through daily communication and coordination with key departments.
  • Oversees the maintenance and operation of the ice rink plant and lighting system for Bojangles Coliseum.
  • Oversees all repairs and maintenance of all building systems, equipment, and machinery.
  • Development and implement a preventative maintenance program, including life cycle analysis, inclusive of all facets of the facilities operations.
  • Purchases supplies and codes all engineering and operations invoices for accounting to ensure vendors and contractors are paid in a timely fashion.
  • Evaluates and monitors departmental budget, as well as assisting GM with annual budget development and analysis.
  • Oversees OSHA compliance and develops/implements necessary training for the BOplex.
  • Works with Director of Security & Risk Management and BOplex Security Director to develop and manage venue security program, in compliance with all local and federal standards
  • Develops the annual preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment located within the facilities.
  • Manages the Capital Improvement Program for the facilities.
  • Creates the Facility Services and Engineering annual budgets.
  • Maintains inventory records for parts and supplies.
  • Assists Tech Director in analyzing if the technical needs of future events can be met by each venue.
  • Supervises all engineering and operations outside contractors during event.
  • Maintains and executes a work order system.
  • Solicits estimates and proposals from contractors and vendors for general services and projects.
  • Utilizes AutoCAD to create event related drawings and is responsible for final approval of drawings.
  • Act as Manager on Duty for events and handles settlements as assigned.
  • Works closely with Event Managers and Technical Director to advance shows.
  • Reviews and acts accordingly on customer survey feedback.
  • Consistently deliver the best in customer service. By supporting the CRVA customer experience initiatives and decisions underscoring the Service Philosophy, will champion the evolution and continuity of building and leading the team to work collaboratively across the organization and greater Charlotte community, to deliver memorable customer experiences.
  • Champion CRVA’s mission, vision and core values and comply with organizations policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibility
  • This role has direct supervisory responsibilities of Engineering and Facility Operations and indirect responsibility over full-time and part-time department team members.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • This position at times assumes the responsibility of all BOplex operations as Manager on Duty.
  • This job will have periodic access to confidential data including financial statements, organization records and/or minutes, and customer quotes.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in sports management or facility management and seven to eight years venue related experience. A combination of related work experience and education may be considered.
  • Five (5) years or more event management experience in an arena/auditorium or sports-related facility or equivalent venue related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Previous experience with Event Business Management System (EBMS) or a similar electronic event management system strongly desired.
  • Proficient skill level in Microsoft Office required including general office equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects and make decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills

Physical Demands
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.


Work Environment

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Travel Required

  • This job has potential for occasional travel.
