Archdiocese of Boston is Hiring a Facilities Technician (FT) Near Braintree, MA

    The collaborative of St. Ann by the Sea and Our Lady of the Assumption in Marshfield is currently looking for a Facilities Technician to join their team. This is a full-time position.
    General Responsibility:
    This position is responsible for the overall maintenance and repair of the physical plant of the parishes within the collaborative of St. Ann by the Sea and Our Lady of the Assumption parishes.
    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Supervises custodial staff and volunteers.
    • Performs majority of maintenance of Church, Rectory and Parish Hall including, but not limited to masonry, electrical systems, plumbing, minor carpentry, and painting.
    • Arrange for church volunteers, custodial staff or negotiate with contractors to complete necessary repairs or maintenance.
    • Interact with local municipal officials to ensure permits, licenses and inspections are in order and maintain up-to-date contact information with fire, police, alarm, and other vendors.
    • Schedule necessary inspections including building insurance, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, etc.
    • Accompanies all Inspectors.
    • Maintains compliance with OSHA and Archdiocese safety codes.
    • Responsible for unlocking and locking parish buildings on occasion.
    • Performs weekly “walk-around” inspections of all buildings and grounds to proactively identify and resolve maintenance or safety issues.
    • Communicate building needs to Pastor. In addition, communicate deferred maintenance and capital improvements.
    • Oversees ongoing projects, keeping Finance Manager informed of progress and changes.
    • Prepares the church, hall, and classrooms for service and church events including, but not limited to:
    • Cleaning and maintaining facilities.
    • Performing the necessary room set-ups for meetings and events (including weekends)
    • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors and carpets using cleaning solutions, tools, and equipment.
    • Cleaning and polishing walls, ceilings, windows and building fixtures.
    • Cleaning walkways, parking lots and steps.
    • Dusting furniture, walls, and other equipment.
    • Gathering and emptying trash.
    • Cleaning bathrooms.
    • Collecting and hauling trash and recycling.
    • Hauling, moving, and picking up items and equipment as needed.
    • Maintain furnace/boiler and air conditioning systems - annual service and inspection.
    • Order, pickup, and maintain supplies for cleaning, lighting, and maintaining church needs.
    • Assures the grounds are maintained in a clean and safe manner. Perform or oversee the contracting for mowing, watering, grass trimming, pruning, weeding, leaf blowing, and raking. Keep walkways, stairs, and parking lots clean including snow blowing, shoveling and snow removal.
    • On call for major building emergencies and snow removal. Must be available as the first line of contact in the event of an emergency.
    • Cover and uncover air conditioning units seasonally.
    • Attends regular staff meetings.
    • Other responsibilities required by the Pastor.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; two years of technical training; four years of building maintenance experience. Practical experience in managing properties, especially older buildings.
    • Skilled at making a variety of building repairs
    • -basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical systems.
    • Knowledge of cleaning methods and products.
    • Ability to use computer/tablet and email.
    • Reliable and able to work flexible hours independently with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects.
    • Valid MA driver’s license and good driving record.
    • Must be willing to support the mission and vision of the Roman Catholic Church and be a Catholic in good standing.
    • Must complete and maintain Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training as required by the Archdiocese and pass a CORI check.

    Preferred Skills

    • Flexibility is required.
    • Duties will be allocated between parishes a determined by the Pastor and Finance Manager.

    Physical performance

    • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and reach.
    • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
