CrossTrac Equipment is Hiring a Field Service Technician Near Gaylord, MI

What You’ll Do

  • Start in our Gaylord shop as you learn the unique skills and customer base of a an equipment dealership built to serve the logging, land clearing, and construction equipment market.
  • Eventually transition to a role where the primary responsibilities are being the face of the organization to a customer base spread across Michigan and the U.P.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electical support needs of machines that cost well over $500,000. When customers spend this kind of money, they expect and deserve exceptional support.
  • Manage a service truck and have it ready to go when you leave the shop. This includes making sure you have the tools, parts, and consumables to fully exucute that day's jobs.
  • Spend a considerable amount of time training on both general concepts of the machines and the specific intricacies of our brands.
  • Support the rest of the shop on days when field service is not needed, both by working on machines there and pitching in to help with cleaning and organization of the store.
  • Prepare clear, complete, and professional reports of the work you do, for both internal and external audiences.

What You’ll Need (First day, or As Soon As Possible)

  • A team-first attitude.
  • Initiative and ambition.
  • Working knowledge of heavy equipment, specifically of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic basics.
  • Basic knowledge of standard information tools, such as MS Office programs and general web browsers.
  • Solid understanding of and ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and bills of material.
  • An eye and ear for the company’s image and position in the market. If you see something, say something.
  • An ability to triage and prioritize incoming requests for our parts and service functions. You’ll sometimes need to think and process with a limited amount of information. Make mistakes fast, learn from them, and move on.
  • A high degree of personal accountability and initiative. You won't always have a working phone connection in the woods. You'll need to be prepared to work without someone looking over your shoulder.
  • Ownership of a safe work environment and ensure that all department employees understand and follow all safety policies and procedures. Be a role model in the areas of environmental health and safety.

What We’ll Provide

  • A supportive work environment where you are encouraged to present ideas, ask questions, and provide candid feedback to senior leadership.
  • Training, training, and more training. Much of this is "tribal knowledge" that factory training often misses, so there will be a lot of hand-holding for a while.
  • A solid base salary and a steady amount of overtime
  • Medical and dental insurance plans.
  • 401k with company matching.
