Description
The Staff Accountant supports the Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accountability, financial reporting, financial grant administration, account analysis, budgeting and other special projects as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Advocates for the mission of the organization and upholds the agency’s values.
· Maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
· Preparing journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and assisting with monthly close processes.
· Contributing to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.
· Maintaining documentation for accounts payable, purchasing, and treasury and conducting internal audits.
· Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
· Meeting processing and reporting deadlines.
· Responding to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and assisting with audits.
· Cross-trained to provide back-up support for other positions.
· Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time – quite often on short notice – by the Controller or the Senior Accountant.
· Cash Receipts
· Processing daily cash receipt deposits, coding and recording in accounting system for multiple entities.
· Assisting the Grant Administrator with coordinating and preparing monthly grant billings and financial reports.
· Records billings on the accounting software and assists in monitoring open receivables and following up on past due accounts.
· Monitors the status of grant funds in accordance with their budget and reports on significant variances as appropriate.
Requirements
Experience and Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting and 1 years’ experience in accounting or related field.
· Experience with grant fiscal management in a non-profit setting is desirable.
