Job Position Dental Clinic Director/DDS

(Part-time, salary, exempt, administrative, and at-will)

General Scope of Position:

The Dental Clinic Director will provide leadership and direction for the health services of Crossings Community Clinic (CCC or Clinic). The Dental Director will oversee the clinical policies and procedures of CCC. The Dental Director will be responsible for the assessment and selection of those who have volunteered to provide dental care and clinical services at the CCC Dental clinic, will promote leadership and ensure efficient, effective, and compassionate care, and participate in the development and implementation of clinic policies and quality assurance. The Dental Director will be required to see patients regularly.

Typical work hours will be 30-35 hours weekly - Monday through Friday. Actual days and hours of work are subject to Clinic needs or special events, which may require schedule flexibility, including days and hours beyond or different from a typical work week. Final schedule will be determined with candidate upon job offer.

Organizational Relationships:

Reports to the Executive Director of CCC and will work collaboratively and interact regularly with various vendors, CCC staff, and volunteers across the various departments and ministries, and locations, as well as with partners of the Clinic to accomplish the goals and mission of the Clinic.

Directly Supervises at the Penn location: Dentists, Hygienists, Dental Assistants, and Volunteer Coordinator. The Dental Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator supervise non-provider volunteers and subsequently will fall under the direct supervision of the Dental Clinic Director when the coordinator is unavailable.

Provides Clinical Direction to: Receptionist / Scheduler (who reports to Operations Manager) and dental direction to other clinics as needed.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provides direct day-to-day dental care to the patients of CCC Dental Clinic.
  • Provides direct supervision of all CCC dental care professionals.
  • Monitors workflow processes and procedures to maximize the productivity of dental care professionals.
  • Provides oversight for volunteer dental care staffing and coordinates volunteer dental care professionals.
  • Provides preceptor oversight to dental students who rotate through the clinic.
  • Develop clinical protocols as needed.
  • Enhances clinic operation effectiveness, efficiencies, and quality of care.
  • Works with the Executive Director to identify cost containment in clinic operations.
  • May represent the CCC to local dental, professional, civic, institutional, and community groups.
  • Assists with compliance of government and industry regulations.
  • Remains in good standing with professional associations.
  • Coordinate provider schedules to ensure efficient and effective clinic flow specifically for daily appointment scheduling and provider templates for patient flow.
  • Treat every patient as an honored guest.
  • Develop and implement dental clinic policies and procedures.
  • Guide dental team, including dentists, hygienists, students, both staff and volunteers, to deliver consistent standards of care according to policies and ensure clinical practices are best for patient health.
  • Provide feedback for formal policies not specifically dental in nature (post-exposure protocol, employee evaluation policies, etc).
  • Orient, train, and lead the dental team.
  • Collaborate with clinic team to ensure smooth operation of clinic and programs, including staffing and patient visit ratios, scheduling, and cost-benefit of programs; advise on facilities and equipment purchases and repairs.
  • Evaluate the dental team and collaborate to create and implement ideal systems to meet goals.
  • Collaborate in fundraising and grant writing (example: narrative for Delta Dental grant applications, mid-year reports, and EOY reports.
  • Participate in board and management meetings and annual planning processes. Write board reports and EOY reports, evaluate goal progress: What to celebrate? What to improve?
  • Represent CCC to dental and other community meetings and events; liaison to local and state dental organizations; collaborate with other local and state groups working to access dental care for OKC (ex: D-DENT, OKMOM, NSO, Mobile Smiles, etc).
  • Recruit and manage dental volunteers {this is broken down to Dental Director -- providers including dentists/hygienists and student programs, Dental Assistant - assistants and admin volunteers, including individual non-provider students').
  • Coordinate relationship with OUCOD dental and OUCOD Rose State dental hygiene programs, preceptor for OUCOD dental students (Dental Assistant coordinates with dental assisting school programs), both volunteer and required school programs.
  • Assist in maintaining the highest possible clinic standards and professional ethics in accordance with the goals, Purpose Statement, and Core Values of Crossings Community Clinic.
  • Support the leadership of CCC, contributing to the spirit of unity among the staff and patients.
  • Represent the Clinic in civic and clinic-related efforts as approved.
  • Complete any other duties or tasks to accomplish responsibilities associated with this position or as may be needed or assigned to fulfill the needs, mission, and goals of the Clinic.

  • Possess a current unrestricted driver’s license.
    • Ability to travel between locations as needed or requested.

Education and Experience:

  • Dental degree from an accredited dental school within the United States.
  • Licensed in the state of Oklahoma.
  • Sustains good standing membership within a like-minded Faith Community.
  • Maintain a vibrant relationship with Christ through prayer, Bible study, regular worship attendance and Christian fellowship.
