Nurse Practitioner:

**Flexible Hours**
Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician. The Nurse Practitioner will document patient histories, perform physical examinations, order diagnostic tests, and perform existing patient assessments as needed. The Nurse Practitioner will also implement treatment plans as delegated by the supervising physician and inform patients about the medical component of their treatment. The Nurse Practitioner will perform duties within the scope of their license or certification which are an addendum to this job description.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

The key responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner include:

Professional Development

  • Responsible for the achievement of assigned specific annual goals and objectives
  • Responsible for mentoring and conducting professional development activities (e.g., in-service, training) in medical subjects relevant to the patients’ treatment.

Training

  • Participate in all trainings as required by federal, state, local and accrediting agencies.
  • When requested, the Nurse Practitioner may be required to develop training content for training on various medical topics relevant to opiate addiction and general good health practices.
  • From time-to-time, the Nurse Practitioner may participate in and/or lead outreach related in-service activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
The practice of a nurse practitioner shall include the performance of medical services within the scope of his/her education, training and expertise.

  • Obtaining and preparing patient histories and performing physical examinations
  • Assessing patients’ appropriateness for dosing, dose level adjustments, phase level adjustments, and changes to the patients treatment plan
  • Ordering or performing diagnostic procedures as delegated by the supervising physician
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of a treatment plan in accordance with written clinical practice guidelines and protocols set forth by the supervising physician
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
  • Coordinating care with ancillary healthcare providers and making referrals when appropriate
  • Review all laboratory results, as well as, all medical documentation from other care providers
  • Ensure implementation of medical quality health standards for both patients and employees
  • Provide medical input into overall program philosophy, treatment services, and patient care
  • Provide consultation to clinical and administrative staff
  • Provide a response to emergency care providers when they require consultation for one of the program’s patients
  • Collaborate whenever necessary with other physicians, clinics or hospitals participating in the treatment of program patients
  • Attend weekly treatment team meetings, as well as outside seminars and training
  • Hold a basic understanding of drug/alcohol abuse and addiction. Keep updated on current drug abuse and treatment information, especially current trends in Opioid Maintenance Treatment
  • Ensure treatment center meets all accreditation standards related to Medical, Health, and Safety issues; and other areas as assigned
  • Assist nursing team as needed
  • Meet our attendance standards and be present and ready for work at the beginning of their established work schedule
  • Report any work-related injury or illness, or workplace hazards or security issues immediately to supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Regulatory

  • Responsible for complying with all federal, state and local regulatory agency requirements
  • Responsible for complying with all accrediting agency requirements

Minimum Requirements
The ideal candidate must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of employment and maintain a current DEA license and provide documentation of renewal on or before expiration date. Experience and understanding of chemical addiction is preferable. In addition to meeting the qualifications, the ideal candidate will embody the following characteristics and possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge and skill in the use of typical office equipment
  • Demonstrate basic computer/word processing skills
  • Working knowledge of dosing graduates, centrifuge, and phlebotomy equipment, monitoring equipment for physical assessment, test strips, breathalyzers, and other medical equipment as needed.
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes.
  • Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.
  • Prolonged standing, some bending, stooping and stretching
  • Variable workload, periodic high stress and activity level
  • Standard medical office conditions and environments
  • Interactions with patients who may be ill, have infectious diseases, have mental health diagnoses and/or are involved in the criminal justice system
  • May require use of protective equipment
