Position Overview

The Crooked Stave Production Assistant has an essential role in quality management and acts as a supporting position to all aspects of production - packaging, cellar and brewing. This position focuses on assisting the Head Brewer/Quality Manager to ensure quality wort production, optimal fermentation conditions, excellent cellar techniques, and maintaining clean and properly functioning work environments with the ultimate goal of making the greatest beers possible.

Reporting Relationships

The Production Assistant reports to the Head Brewer/Quality Manager and executive managers.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

Packaging Duties:

• Clean and sanitize brewery equipment, kegs, lines, and other areas in the brewery; keep track of clean and dirty equipment and kegs
• Keg, bottle and package product while monitoring quality standards
• Maintain a safe and clean production facility that aligns with OSHA standards

Cellar Duties:

• Transfer finished beer from the fermentation cellar to the assigned vessel(s) BT, Foeder or Barrels, while maintaining the quality and integrity of the product
• Execute the appropriate CIP/SIP/tank purge while maintaining a safe work environment
• Execute dry hopping, fruit additions and other adjunct additions

Shift Brewer Duties:

• Brewhouse wort production including: Grain handling and Milling, Mashing, Kettle/Wort Boil, Knockout and yeast handling, clean up and CIP

Important Skills and Abilities

▪ A positive attitude, highly developed customer service skills and strong verbal and written communication skills

▪ A solid work ethic and sense of urgency; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; the ability to multi-task, prioritize competing tasks, work independently, while excelling in a collaborative team environment

▪ Fundamental understanding of fermentation processes preferred

▪ Ability to problem-solve and work through challenges while remaining calm, flexible and upbeat, knowing when to ask for help to prevent mistakes and complete the task.

▪ Working knowledge, understanding and promotion of the company’s vision and values, products, and policies and procedures

▪ Knowledge of beverage service procedures, laws and regulations; an understanding of Crooked Stave’s brewing processes and beer styles

▪ Must be punctual, ambitious, and employ effective time management skills

Qualification Requirements

▪ To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential role satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

▪ Must be physically capable of lifting and carrying 55 lbs and maneuvering up to 165 lbs

▪ Must be physically capable of working in loud, hot and cold environments

▪ Must be 21 years of age or older

▪ Must be authorized to work in the United States

Hourly Rate: $19-21 hourly
