Summer Intern: Research Engagement

The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer-fueled organization whose mission is to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the quality of life for the children and adults affected by these diseases. Our work is dramatically accelerating the research process through our varied research initiatives; we also provide extensive educational and support resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public. In addition, we lead federal and state-based advocacy campaigns to support medical research funding and improve patient access to care. The Foundation’s core values of compassion, integrity, leadership, collaboration, and inclusion inspire and drive every member of our highly performing team.

Position Summary

The Foundation has an exciting opportunity available for an intern to support the Research Engagement team to communicate the impact of the IBD Plexus program, a revolutionary platform that redefines how the IBD research community studies IBD and advances game-changing therapies and discoveries. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in a career in patient engagement.

The intern will report into the Associate Director, Research Engagement, and work closely with the IBD Plexus and Research Cohorts teams. S/he will be responsible for helping create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for our research engagement activities. This will include attending patients advisory committee meetings and helping to create documents that outline engagement best practices. The intern will also be responsible for creating a log to track patient engagement activities. The ideal intern will have an interest in working directly with patients and some experience finding ways to automate processes and/or creating logs to track projects and activities.

This is a hybrid internship with 2 days/week in the Foundation's New York City office and 2 days/week remote.

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be pro-active, self-directed, detail-oriented and organized.
  • Comfortable speaking in small groups and having conversations with a diverse group of people.
  • Experience creating logs in excel or other tracking software(s).
  • Ability to synthesize unstructured information into structured processes.
  • Ability to interact professionally with multiple and diverse cross-functional stakeholders e.g., Foundation staff, researchers, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize, work under pressure and meet deadlines (with supervision).
  • A background in biology, health communication or health-related field is preferred.
