Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School is Hiring an Assistant Principal of Culture Near Philadelphia, PA

Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, a college preparatory, Catholic school for students of all faiths, nurtures and challenges young people to recognize and realize their full potential as they learn to love others, grow in their faiths, and serve the common good. Founded in 2012 and based in a beautiful campus in the Tioga neighborhood of Philadelphia, the school serves over 530 students in grades 9-12 from across the city of Philadelphia as well as Camden.

Each student participates in the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP), an integral part of the Cristo Rey model in which every student works one day a week throughout their four years at the school. The one day per week their students are at work, teachers have extended planning and collaboration opportunities.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate will be well versed in best practices in sustaining and strengthening a welcoming school environment that enables students to reach their highest potential. They have a track record of success in driving notable culture outcomes with students and embodies a growth mindset and commitment to continuous learning and development. The Assistant Principal of Culture will lead culture initiatives that are rooted in relationships.

The Assistant Principal of Culture plays an integral role at CRPHS to ensure a learning environment that is aligned with the school’s mission and academic vision as well as providing ongoing support and development of Cristo Rey faculty and staff. They will also have experience working with students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and a track record of success building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. The Assistant Principal of Culture is a 12-month role and reports to the principal.

What You’ll Do

● Drive, promote and support high expectations, demonstrate a caring attitude, and establish an environment that supports social, emotional, and academic development in students.

● Zealous leadership, advocacy and responsibility for consistent implementation of school wide culture and academic goals for teachers, staff and students.

● Analyze culture data in order to inform culture decisions, professional development and coaching to meet students’ needs and academic goals.

● Lead culture team in meeting school wide and grade level team culture goals.

● Manage disciplinary processes and records for up to 550 students within a restorative practices model that empowers students and promotes positive discipline.

● Lead culture team on daily classroom walkthroughs to ensure the implementation of culture expectations.

● Co lead a Grade Level team, plan, and lead meetings to drive results.

● Supervise monthly, student and teacher/dean led community meetings to celebrate, share school updates, and grow as a community.

● Organize and set expectations for assembly and community meeting gatherings. Develop and implement support and accountability systems to uphold expectations.

● Provide professional development opportunities for teachers and staff in order to uphold schoolwide culture expectations. In coordination with the Instructional Coach, support teachers in their classroom management plans and upholding cultural expectations.

● Engage parents and other community members in the creation of a safe, supportive, and cooperative school environment that enhances the learning process

● Maintain and monitor safety and order by being accessible and visible to the school community (walkthroughs, transitions, lunch, etc).

● Manage culture team to ensure school wide expectations and systems of support are implemented with fidelity (discipline, attendance, parent communication, student services, collective presence, walkthroughs, transitions, lunch). Consistently collect and utilize school wide culture data to inform areas for improvement and areas to celebrate.

● Oversee student/family needs via school pantry, emergency funds, family contribution and other areas of support for students and families.

● Collaborate with work study team, student life and other departments so that culture systems and procedures are consistently upheld to support student success

● Lead summer professional development programs for all new and early career teachers/staff.

● Plan and support Summer Bridge and Summer School programs.

● Assist in the recruitment, hiring and onboarding of highly effective teachers and staff

● Participate in other roles related to being a part of the school community, including attending campus ministry retreats, supporting work study initiatives, and leading student clubs.

● Experience in designing, implementing, and assessing school wide culture practices to serve a heterogeneous student population diverse in culture, religion, and ability.

● Experience in leading teams to meet or exceed qualitative and quantitative goals/outcomes.

● Experience in developing processes that drives adult accountability and student growth.

● Experience collaborating with team members and providing constructive and instructive feedback.

● Ability to work both on board-based strategy and everyday details and assess the need to change priorities.

● Independent, self starter with a strong focus on both staff and student development.

● Strong interpersonal skills to relate well with all stakeholders in the community.

● Complete Virtus training and pass a background check.

● Bachelor’s Degree in or related to education, educational leadership.

● Master’s degree preferred (social work, counseling, education or related field)

● Minimum 5-7 years experience working in schools; teaching experience preferred

● Demonstrated expertise in instructional assessment and coaching and managing a team.

Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, a college preparatory, Catholic school for students of all faiths, nurtures and challenges young people to recognize and realize their full potential as they learn to love others, grow in their faiths, and serve the common good.
