Crisp Regional Health System is Hiring a POLY-SOMNOGRAPHER Near Cordele, GA

Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Medical Director and Manager, Sleep Center, the Sleep Technician is an active member of the Sleep Center that assists in the delivery of care and services. The technician conducts basic evaluation, assessment and treatment of sleep disorders. The Sleep Technician performs polysomnographic, diagnostic and therapeutic services and patient care and education under the direction of the Manager or a Technologist.

Basic Qualifications:
· Education:
Requires a high school diploma in General Studies or a GED state certificate with the completion of an Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program and is currently enrolled in (ASTEP) courses. 
Membership in one or more professional associations (AAST, AASM, SRS, ASET, AARC) related to sleep/wake technologists is encouraged.
· Experience:
Requires up to one year of work related experience of equivalent.
· Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:
Requires and maintains a certificate in Basic Life Saving (BLS).

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and Center protocols.
  • Interviews patients to assess current medications, recent caffeine or alcohol ingestion, and current sleep pattern, and identify any potential need for treatment intervention during testing.
  • Explains pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.
  • Prepares and calibrates equipment required to determine proper functioning.
  • Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards and performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals.
  • Performs positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
  • Follows procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration etc. to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Follows “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values and to verify the integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process.
  • Performs Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and makes adjustments, if necessary.
  • Documents routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
  • Recognizes and provides age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.
  • Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines and clinical events according to center-specific protocols.
  • Generates accurate and timely reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates patient information and study data in files and ensures that files are secured to protect patient information in compliance with all HIPAA rules and regulations.
· Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team promoting positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff in other departments of the organization.
· Complies with CRHS and department safety, infection control and performance improvement initiatives and sterile procedures, ensuring the delivery of products and services.
· Presents a professional image to CRHS nursing and medical staff members.
· Performs other related job duties as assigned.

  • Promotes teamwork with the entire staff, as well as other contacts within the hospital, as measured by observations of Manager and co-workers.
  • Attends professional development programs and in-service training and meets the minimum requirement for continuing professional education.
  • Adheres to the CRHS Standards of Behavior as measured by observations of staff, as well as outside and other inside customers.
  • Verbalizes all core competencies of the unit and department.
  • Complies with all regulatory requirements including the National Patient Safety Goals as observed by peers, supervisor and all members of the healthcare team.
