TITLE: Crisis Counseling Specialist I
DEPARTMENT: Crisis Counseling Program
REPORTS TO: Crisis Counseling Program Supervisor
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Overnight Part Time - Hours Vary
CLASSIFICATION LEVEL: Hourly, Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Assure the seamless availability and delivery of crisis phone counseling including lethality assessment, supportive counseling, and information and referral to individuals who contact Crisis Services 24-hour hotline and other dedicated lines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge: Must possess strong knowledge of mental health and suicide dynamics and effects, public awareness and crisis prevention and intervention services. Superior knowledge of HIPAA laws/regulations with regard to protected health information; code of ethics, confidentiality and privacy principles.
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college and/or university in human service field, social work or relevant field.
Experience: Minimum one (1) year of professional pre or post-graduate experience; preferably providing direct services in mental health or human service setting. Experience with crisis situations and quickly establishing rapport with clients preferred. Demonstrated ability and experience working with diverse populations.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Primarily a sedentary position with occasional standing, sitting, bending and reaching required. A high energy level; comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
