Position Overview:
The Shelter Manager at Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia oversees the day-to-day operations of the shelter and ensures the shelter is safe and fully operational. This position ensures all services and programming provided through the Shelter Program is in line with policies, procedures, and grant (local, state, and federal) regulations. The Shelter Manager also supervises and supports full-time shelter staff and ensures each client is provided victim-centered services.
Individuals with Facilities Management and/or Grants Management experience are strongly encouraged to apply!


Essential Job Functions as Shelter Manager:
  • Plans, directs, coordinates and monitors the day-to-day program operations, including facility management, grant management, and scheduling of full-time staff to ensure continuous and adequate coverage for the shelter
  • Keeps Executive Director and/or Director of Programs informed of shelter and business operations
  • Supervises all full-time shelter staff and volunteers to ensure work is in compliance with established policies and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulations
  • Reviews and approves time cards for full-time staff
  • Conducts employee performance evaluations for all supervised staff with appropriate recommendations for hiring, firing, and salary increases
  • Shares Shelter on-call duty with full-time staff (approximately one week per month)
  • Ensures professional training of all staff and volunteers to meet, at least, minimum annual requirements for certification.
  • Represents CL&SH at grant required meetings or any other meeting or event as requested by the Executive Director or Director of Programs, in or out of the city limits of Macon, Georgia
  • Maintains a secure facility at all times and is responsible for the safety and well-being of residents
  • With input from the Client Services Manager, approves financial assistance requests and ensures approved requests are successfully submitted in line with agency policies.
  • Stays up to date on resources available to assist victims of domestic violence to include, but not limited to, community and in-house resources
  • Provides services, support, information, and crisis intervention to callers on the Crisis Hotline
  • Provides support and advocacy to residential clients to support their case planning goals
  • Remains knowledgeable of case management and service provision in order to fulfill other shelter roles as necessary to maintain Shelter functionality
  • Prepares a monthly report detailing program milestones for the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Coordinates with the Client Services Manager to ensure that necessary information regarding each client is properly documented either in the client file and/ or CaseWorthy
  • Is knowledgeable of each funders guidelines and stipulations as it relates to Shelter services and case management
  • Prepares programmatic and financial grant reports as necessary to comply with deadlines from various funding sources
  • Records and reports to appropriate agencies and to the Executive Director and/or Director of Programs statistical data as required by The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, Department of Community Affairs, The City of Macon Community Development Block Grant, The United Way or other organizations requiring statistical information by the prescribed deadlines
  • Regularly reviews and, if necessary, updates the policies and procedures of the Shelter Program to maintain compliance with funding sources.
  • Coordinates shelter maintenance as needed and maintains records of regular maintenance and Shelter inspections as required by funding sources.
  • Is knowledgeable of State and Federal Guidelines and laws as relate to family violence and Shelter services
  • Is knowledgeable of State and Federal Human Resource guidelines as relates to employees
  • Handles situations that involve hospitalization of clients, complaints against staff, or other serious situations, and keeps Executive Director and/or Director of Programs informed of the situation
  • Communicates and interacts with community groups to promote identification and prevention of family violence
  • Assists with activities that are scheduled at Crisis Line & Safe House as requested by the Executive Director and/or Director of Programs
  • Promotes a positive working environment to all employees of Crisis Line & Safe House
  • Participates in public speaking on behalf of Crisis Line & Safe House as requested by the Director or Programs or Executive Director
  • Ensures that the grievance process is observed as it relates to clients and notifies the Executive Director as prescribed
  • Conducts ongoing training to all Shelter staff, in coordination with the Client Services Manager
  • Provides extra support, training, or coaching to any shelter employee when necessary; properly documents any such action, maintains such documentation for the personnel file, and notifies the Executive Director of such action if necessary
Non-essential Job Functions:
  • Assists in office coverage when necessary
  • Assists in other areas such as shelter advocacy when needed
Requirements of Position Applicants:
  • Possess at minimum a four-year degree in the area of social work, psychology, criminal justice, or community counseling OR have 5-8 years experience in facilities management, grants management, or human services experience.
  • Experience in grant writing and reporting
  • Background in non-profit work strongly preferred
  • Background in victim advocacy strongly preferred
  • Possess an understanding of domestic violence dynamics
  • Possess a working knowledge in the area of human resources
  • Demonstrate comfort with public speaking and development of training material on a variety of topics to include domestic violence and sexual assault and their intersection with housing issues, mental health concerns, and other relevant topics.
  • Able to work independently
  • Knowledge of or a willingness to learn the resources available both in the community and in-house
  • Obtain CPR/ First Aid Training
  • Pass criminal background check
  • Willing to submit to random drug screenings
  • Willing to adhere to all shelter policies and procedures
