CONSTRUCTION COST ACCOUNTANT
Works closely with Project Managers and Construction Management to apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports as they relate to construction projects by performing the following duties.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
  • Complies with applicable SOX requirements and corporate accounting policies (includes GAAP and IFRS).
  • Assists employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services.
  • Identifies and resolves problems and inconsistencies, determining appropriate corrective procedures.
  • Assist Project Managers in the bidding process, pulling plans and proposal, creating the estimating file, monitoring addendums, issuing requests for quotes for DBE projects and submitting the final bid.
  • Construction project set up in the accounting and job cost systems.
  • Set up and maintain internal sales orders to construction projects.
  • Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and totals accounts to ledgers or computer spreadsheets and databases.
  • Evaluate construction contract requirements ensuring contract compliance, proper submissions, monitoring last day worked for lien or bond rights, and complete final close-out documentation in coordination with Project Managers.
  • Review subcontractor prevailing wage submissions for compliance, track DBE participation, and prepare monthly trucking/transportation reporting.
  • Codes data for input to accounting processing system according to company procedures.
  • Follow up with owners and contractors regarding overdue receivable balances.
  • Assist with weekly deposit counting and verifying cash received and depositing at local bank.
  • Assist in the compilation of cost information to be used in operating budget preparation.
  • Provide backup to Controller or Assistant Controller as needed/required.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

 Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university is preferred;
  • Or two to three years of related experience and/or training;
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Requirements

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and criminal background checks.
  • Report to the office dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently, within a team environment, and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required (less than 10% of the time).

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
