Position Summary
The Nursing Director for Medical Surgical department is the first line manager designated for this specific nursing area, its patient population, and assigned staff. The Nursing Director has 24-hour responsibility for unit’s activity. Plans, coordinates, directs the fiscal, personnel and patient care activities to assure the standards of care and standards of practice are met as appropriate for the patient care needs and the age of the patient in as cost-effective manner as possible. Responsible for integration of the nursing area (s) into the overall functioning of the organization.
Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer
Responsibilities of the Position
Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
Minimum Education
Associate's Degree in Nursing is required.
Bachelors of Science in Nursing is preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
A current North Carolina or compact stated Registered Nurse (RN) license is required upon hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire.
Required Skills
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must-Haves:
1.- A current North Carolina or compact stated Registered Nurse (RN) license is required upon hire.
2.- At least a Associates Degree in Nursing.
3.- Previous clinical director experience in a hospital setting.
Nice-To-Haves:
1.- 5 years in clinical nursing; preferably in Medical/Surgical.
2.- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
3.- Master of Science in Nursing.
4.- ACLS & PALS certification.
5.- Clinical experience in critical care hospital setting.
