Detailed Description:

The Director of Recreation will be responsible for the successful operation of all aspects of The Anchor, the Fitness Center, and the Pool, including the recruitment, hiring, scheduling, training, and supervision of Assistant Directors, Associates (FT), and Assistants (PT), and for ensuring the successful execution of all responsible areas during open hours at The Anchor, the Fitness Center, and the Pool. These areas include oversite of all facets of the Command & Control Center, assisting, demonstrating, and promoting to customers using various physical and electronic games and attractions, providing guidance for policies and procedures related to indoor and outdoor amenity use, and collaborating with other Shangri-La team members in executing organized group events.

The position will provide proactive oversight to ensure the prompt and effective repair of games and attractions of The Anchor, the Fitness Center, and the Pool. Capabilities of effective planning, organization, and execution of numerous large and small-scale events, parties, clinics, and camps hosted at The Anchor or other venues throughout the Shangri-La Resort property is critical for success, as is a focus on generating and maintaining a culture of fun, excitement, and energy, designed to maximize enjoyment for all visitors and enhance value for Shangri-La members. The position will also be responsible for maintaining inventory for retail and arcade redemption, light financial analysis, and accurate execution of cash transactions.

REPORTS TO: Director of Food & Beverage

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensure successful operation of all aspects of The Anchor, the Fitness Center, and the Pool.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings to plan and report on numerous performance metrics tied to assigned facilities.
  • Engage in strategic planning to develop short and long-term strategies for maintaining and improving operations.
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise Assistant Director, FT and PT positions.
  • Ability to teach other to demonstrate and upsell to customers using gaming machines.
  • Coordinate and execute regular training for incoming and continual staff.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator to generate advertising and promotional content for various media platforms.
  • Perform light preventative maintenance and necessary repairs on machines and equipment.
  • Perform regular sanitation of all touch-point surfaces and other areas requiring cleaning.
  • Facilitate daily facility opening or closing procedures.
  • Facilitate regular inventory counting and reporting.
  • Attend planning meetings for numerous Shangri-La parties, events, clinics, and camps.
  • Perform set up and tear down tasks related to parties, events, clinics, and camps.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints leading to a satisfactory solution.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5 years of experience in a combination of restaurant / bar management, hospitality, recreational, resort / tourism or service-related fields.
  • Communication, organization, leadership, and management skills are critical.
  • Positive, outgoing, high-energy approach necessary for a fun and fast-paced environment.
  • Prolonged standing, lifting of items up to 50 lbs., moving of furniture and equipment periodically.

Working Conditions:

The Director of Recreation will primarily work in an outdoor setting on property but may need to travel occasionally for off-site events. This role may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate evening or weekend activities.

Safety & Security:

The safety and security of our guests and associates is of utmost importance to Crescent. Every Crescent associate should adhere to the hotel security policies and procedures, particularly regarding key controls, lifting heavy objects, using chemicals, and effectively reporting safety hazards and safety concerns.
