Crenshaw Christian Center is Hiring a Coach, Track & Field Near Los Angeles, CA

Primary Purpose

Oversee all track & field operations and related activities associated with the track & field program. Ensure that the track & field program follows the procedures of the school’s athletic program as well as those associated with league, CIF –SS and State and the National Federation (NFHS).

Position Responsibilities

Included but not limited to the following:

  • Has full responsibility for the overall supervision and development of the track & field program.
  • In charge of assignments and duties of assistant coaches.
  • In coordination with the Athletic Director, plan and implement the scheduling of team activities, tryouts, practices, game plans and off season activities.
  • Teaches athletes to perform sound, safe, fundamental techniques of the designated sport throughout the season.
  • Monitors student attendance and academic performance.
  • Responsible for completing and submitting transportation requests in a timely manner to the school office.
  • Follows site procedures, CIF rules, playoffs and the CIF Coaches Code of Ethics.
  • Fosters training in conduct, ethics and sportsmanship for all participants and coaches.
  • Responsible for the safety and securing of the team before, during, and after events and traveling to and from events.
  • Verifies that the school office clears each team member before allowing him/her to practice.
  • Responsible for distribution, collection and general upkeep of all uniforms and equipment and providing an end of the season inventory that is submitted to the Athletic Director.
  • Works with the Athletic Director and the Principal to maintain communication and to solve problems at the school level while supporting ideas of the program/parent concern procedures.
  • Submits an annual written report evaluating the program, with recommendations for improvements, if requested by the Athletic Director.
  • Responsible for submitting an annual budget with fundraising strategies by June 15 for purchasing equipment, supplies, and uniforms as needed.
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times athletes are present
  • Reports unsafe working conditions to the Athletic Director in a timely manner to correct safety hazards.
  • Cooperates with all of the coaches in providing optimum sports program possible.
  • Promotes the track & field program by prompt, accurate reporting of scores to CIF and other school related media outlets (i.e. MaxPreps).
  • Sets up a preseason parent orientation meeting to review eligibility, athletic code, team rules, and risk factors for all athletes.
  • Complies with time restraints for practice and contest schedules, including holidays/Saturdays, as well as off-season schedules.

Minimum QualificationsSkills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • A minimum of one year of track & field coaching experience at the high school, club or collegiate level.
  • A written verifiable record of positive staff, student and administrative support and relationships.
  • A written verifiable record of placing appropriate emphasis on good sportsmanship, academic excellence, positive attitudes and character.
  • A demonstrated ability to teach, enforce, advocate and model appropriate behavior, character traits and educational values to student-athletes.
  • A demonstrated ability to teach, organize and supervise assistants.
  • A demonstrated ability to serve as a positive role model for student-athletes and a commitment to holding all student-athletes and adults associated with the program to the same standards.
  • A demonstrated ability to work with parents, administrators, staff and students.
  • A demonstrated ability to organize and maintain positive communication with the community.
  • A demonstrated ability to successfully promote athletes who qualify under NCAA Clearinghouse standards for post secondary scholarship opportunities.
  • Ability and commitment to follow the California Interscholastic Federation Coaches Code of Conduct.
