As a Direct Support Professional, you will work with someone in their home, place of employment, or around the community to help them live a full and independent life.
Responsibilities
The support provided by our professionals can vary depending on the needs of our client. Below is a sample of the range of responsibilities for this role:
- Assist clients with daily living skills such as meal preparation and medication administration
- Take clients on outings within the community such as visits to the library, grocery shopping, or other activities that match the interests of the client.
- Observe clients, charting and reporting changes in their conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.
- Help clients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing and walking.
- Work as part of a team to assess client needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions.
- Keep financial records, make appointments, or perform other clerical duties on behalf of clients.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required.
- Solid computer skills with ability to quick learn new software programs
- Ability to independently problem solve in potentially complex or stressful situations.
- Patience, ability to clearly explain concepts
- Ability to learn and apply new skills
- Ability to use personal vehicles to safely transport clients to appointments or on outings.
Other Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid Driver’s License and a properly insured personal vehicle.
- Prior experience working with people with disabilities preferred
- Experience in special education, psychology, or related field preferred
- Regularly required to lift 25 lbs. and occasionally lift or move 50-100 lbs. (assisted)
