Aide Responsibilities
An aide is responsible for assisting in the implementation of daily program activities under the supervision and guidance of an assistant group supervisor or group supervisor.
An aide is responsible for working as part of a cohesive teaching team, following the curriculum, and maintaining the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Aides should understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The aide must be able to communicate with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children and resolve parental concerns. The aide must be able to handle the physical demands of working in childcare, including but not limited to standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, bending, and lifting.
Beginning aides may spend the majority of time completing basic tasks (changing diapers, cleaning, setting up meals etc.). As an aide progresses through training and works towards becoming an assistant group supervisor, the aide will begin to take on more responsibilities with the planning and managing of a classroom.
Aides may be assigned to a specific room or float between various rooms based on the needs of the children and business. It is the responsibility of the aide to complete the room specific tasks and ask for assistance from regular classroom staff. If an aide is covering the ratio, he/she is to assume the responsibilities of the regular classroom staff. Aides are required to assist in all classroom tasks and engage with children. Active supervision of children is required at all times. At no time, are aides permitted to be alone with children. An aide must be supervised by an assistant group supervisor or group supervisor who is permitted to be left alone with children.
Aide schedules vary based on the needs of the business. Aides should be prepared to work in any classroom on any day. Whenever possible, aides will be informed of their assigned room(s) prior to the start of the day, but this assignment may change due to other staffing issues and ratio requirements.

3270.37. Aide qualifications and responsibilities.
(a) An aide is responsible for assisting in the implementation of daily program activities.
(b) An aide shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:
(1) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate.
(2) A minimum of an 8th grade education and enrollment in a training curriculum described at § 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training). The classroom training portion of the curriculum shall be completed. Documentation of completion of classroom training and continuing enrollment in the training curriculum shall be included in the staff person’s file.
(3) A minimum of an 8th grade education and 2 years of experience with children.
(c) An aide or a combination of aides shall be supervised at all times by a staff person qualified at minimum as an assistant group supervisor.
