SUMMARY

To ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school cafeteria for the ultimate health, comfort, and benefit of the students.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Plans and directs the preparation and serving of all food in the cafeteria.
  • Assumes responsibility for the security, storage and care of food and supplies.
  • Accounts daily for money received for goods sold (i.e. meals, ala carte, supplies, and snack bar where applicable, etc.).
  • Responsible for determining the accuracy and eligibility of free and reduced lunch applications; maintains accurate records on students who qualify and dispenses/sells those tickets accordingly.
  • Assumes responsibility for the security of revenue from cafeteria services until it has been turned over to proper authorities.
  • Sees that menus developed by the School Nutrition Director are followed without deviation.
  • Supervises in the preparation and serving of food. Participates when needed.
  • Oversees in the cleaning of kitchen, serving, storage, and dining areas. Participates when needed.
  • Assigns, plans, directs, and supervises the work of cafeteria employees under the direction of the School Nutrition Director.
  • Keeps employee time records.
  • Plans work schedules and arranges for substitutes when required.
  • Instructs new School Nutrition employees in performing their assigned tasks.
  • Evaluates the performance of all School Nutrition employees under the direction of the School Nutrition Director.
  • Directs sanitation procedures according to Yuma County Health Department standards.
  • Works with Principal to plan, direct, and supervise cleaning schedules for the eating area of the cafeteria.
  • Inspects the kitchen, cooking and mixing utensils, and employees for cleanliness and sanitary purposes according to Yuma County Health Department standards.
  • Assumes responsibility for checking that all equipment in the cafeteria area is in safe, working condition, and notifies the appropriate authority when repairs or replacements are needed.
  • Maintains records on food and supplies received and used.
  • Maintains food production records and accountability standards as required by USDA.
  • Maintains good P/R with principals, teachers, and parents.
  • May be called upon to provide help with outside functions or special projects.
  • Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

  • High school diploma or GED required. Please upload with application.
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ previous experience in a commercial or institutional School Nutrition operation.
  • Previous experience in the supervision of personnel preferred.
  • Ability to obtain food handler’s card.
  • Ability to lift medium to heavy weights, bend, stoop, reach and climb.
  • Shall have ability to work effectively and professionally with school personnel and students.


REPORTS TO:

Director, School Nutrition


SUPERVISES:

School Nutrition personnel and student workers.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with public and staff.
