Groundskeeper

The Groundskeeper position performs skilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance work using hand tools, walk-behind and riding motorized equipment and specialized equipment such as chain saws, paint sprayers, etc. Additional duties include irrigation system operation and maintenance, road paving, and assisting with athletic field striping. Groundskeepers are responsible for equipment assigned and for making routine daily maintenance checks on oil, air, fuel, and safety items.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Mow, edge, trim, and aerate lawn.
  • Weed, water, fertilize, and spray lawns.
  • Pruning, tree removal, and chipping
  • Snow and ice removal by hand and with motorized equipment.
  • Irrigation system maintenance
  • Leaf removal
  • Road/parking lot maintenance
  • Routine maintenance of groundskeeping equipment
  • May do interior maintenance work as necessary.
  • Must be aware of proper procedures to use when encountering suspected asbestos containing material to avoid personal exposure, contamination of job site, and exposure of facility occupants to asbestos.

Requirements:

  • Must possess Pesticide Applicators License or obtain one within three to six months.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
  • Three years experience in grounds maintenance and the operation of mechanized equipment or satisfactory performance completing 1000 hours as a Grounds Worker at Cranbrook.
  • A completed Associates degree can count as 2 years experience or a completed bachelor’s degree can count as 4 years experience. Degrees must be in Horticulture, Arboriculture, Forestry, Agronomy, Soil Science, Environmental Science or other related field required.
  • Good mechanical aptitude/abilities.

This is a full-time position with a starting pay rate of $19.67 per hour.

Available Shifts include:

Monday-Thursday, 6am-2:30pm and Sunday, 7am-3:30pm

Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm
