Camp Extended Care Educator – Explore Camp

Cranbrook Institute of Science’s on-site Explore Camps give inquisitive campers the support they need to learn through doing. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

This position works with campers and assists directors with camp materials and logistics. Directly responsible for campers attending after care and includes preparation of the weekly/daily schedule and activities of aftercare, delivers all aftercare programming, manages aftercare camper’s safety, interactions, and behavior, and interacts with parents at pick up.

Qualifications Required:

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• A Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
• 2 years demonstrated experience engaging and managing youth in group activities such as camp, scouts, formal classroom settings, or after school programs. 
• Ability to effectively relate to campers, staff, and parents.

Preferred: At least 3 years’ experience working with children in a camp/group setting.

Timeframe: Training begins in June; day camp sessions run Monday-Friday June 17^th to August 2^nd with the opportunity to extend employment through August and beyond. Typically, an 8-hour day between the hours of 10:30am-6:30pm. Must be able to work the entire length of camp. Positions are also available to start in May to assist with camp prep, end of school year field trip programs, and outreach.

Wage: $18.75/hour for new hires, $19.25/hour for returning camp staff.
