Position Title: Project Designer

Location: St. Charles, MO

Position Summary:

Project Designer responsibilities include all activities associated with projects after receipt of a purchase order. A Project Designer is an experienced leader in both project management and design. This includes but is not limited to creative / detail design and fabrication drawings, all project communication internally and externally, project scope changes, project finances, and schedule management for both engineering and production.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare engineering drawings and other pertinent assignments on schedule to meet customer and production requirements.
  • Review designs for safety and liability considerations. Communicating concerns to Engineering Manager in a prompt manner.
  • Consistently update 3D models and drawings.
  • Purchase items required for completion of job.
  • Create Gant charts to drive project success within Engineering and Shop Production departments.
  • Coordinate client approvals and submissions to maintain project timeline.
  • Track all scope changes and notify Sales and Estimating departments of any decrease and/or increase in pricing.
  • Alert leadership team when schedule or budget is in jeopardy.
  • Offer solution proposals on the required corrections and/or changes.
  • Monitor projects in production to verify conformity.
  • Track labor / material and actively manage cost to maintain budget.
  • Provide shop assistance, as needed.

Required Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years' experience as a Designer.
  • Mechanical aptitude with knowledge and experience working with common hand and machine shop tools.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, while working independently and cooperatively.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Scheduling Software.
  • Ability to simultaneously organize and successfully execute multiple project responsibilities.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with technical staff at all levels in a team-based environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact successfully with clients, suppliers and internal employees.
  • Familiarity with Statics and Dynamics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Computer Skills: SolidWorks, 2D CAD and 3D CAD
  • Skills using electric / electric control systems, hydraulics, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), PLC programming, cabinet building, plumbing and lighting.
  • CAPM or PMP Certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Required use of fingers and hands to operate a computer.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary sitting position and move about the office.
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladder and be able to navigate in a shop environment and in a safe manner.
